People and Smoke in Black and White

Congratulations on securing the first position in my competition, and thank you very much for participating. At first glance, your image intrigued me, taking me a few moments to appreciate what was in front of me. Once I grasped it, I found it to be fantastic. Viewing it led me to imagine the cold in the location, the warmth of the fire that I presume is in front, warming the hands, and simultaneously causing great discomfort in the eyes due to contact with the smoke. This, in my opinion, is clearly visible in the facial expression. Upon further exploration, the traditional attire and the light impacting the smoke as it envelops the subject make this photograph truly special.

Thank you for participating, and congratulations on securing the third position! From the first round of judging, your photograph immediately caught my attention among all the others. The subject completely enveloped in smoke embodies the perfect representation of what I envisioned for this competition theme. The shapes, tones, and the sense of movement in the guitarist's hair, combined with the illumination at the center of the guitar, in my opinion, instantly captivate the viewer. The perfect focus and clarity at the top of the guitar, contrasting with the majority of the rest of the image, add an interesting depth to the overall composition, in my view.

In my judgment, the smoke in your photograph is the most complex and sophisticated among all the entries. The tones, shapes, and three-dimensional sensation it conveys invite appreciation of every detail. The smoke, replacing the subject's face and possessing such dimensionality, almost forms the visage of a strange creature, causing a certain unease and generating considerable interest in exploring the image, in my opinion. The vast range of tonalities is very pleasing to the eye. In my view, the image would benefit from eliminating the distraction on the right side.

The intense gaze of the subject through the smoke, in my opinion, conveys a profound sense of focus on the task at hand, capturing the viewer's attention. Additionally, the horse's gaze directed toward the viewer echoes the man's focused look, and together, they offer a sense of harmony in this captivating image.

In my opinion, the gaze of a single eye through the smoke directly at the camera makes this photograph very interesting and conveys a sense of intrusion as we observe the woman, naked, vaping, and solely covered in front by a pillow. The soft illumination from the right, highlighting the forms created by the smoke and gently touching the woman, in contrast with the dark corner in the background and the brightness of the bed linen, in my opinion, offer a broad range of tones that provide delight as one explores the image.
