With so many good pictures to choose from selecting a Top 10 was extremely difficult, but as is the way there are some pictures that inexplicably draw you back. So it was with this image; the coarse B&W presentation suits the subject and circumstances perfectly, whilst the composition provides a harmonious balance of shape and proportion. However, for me the intrigue of the anonymous figure and graffiti gives this picture the edge. Well done.
Juxtaposition is a widely used motif in street photography and posters and advertisements offer rich pickings for the observant and lucky. Here the contradiction of the heavily dressed passerby with the lightly dressed 'poster boy' is enhanced by the snow effect and the direction of glances and graphic arrows. An image with impact.
The impact of this image lies in the subtle and minimal colour palette, along with a striking graphic design that creates bands of colour and shape across the image. The runner is beautifully scaled and placed in the composition, whilst the use of a slow shutter speed creates movement blur that enhances the overall impact.
A well observed slice of everyday life and I love the colours and shapes, as well as the motion blur effect. Sadly it is not a picture I was able to consider as it was not on brief; the competition was for people walking past walls, rather than sitting/riding. Hopefully it will do well in another competition.
The immediate appeal to me in this image was the retro-feel. although this has clearly been achieved through software my initial impression was to think I was viewing a scene from 60-70 years ago. The strong diagonal composition with a relationship between the door and figures makes a strong, simple design that adds impact, but the woman's casual look over her shoulder provides a wonderful human touch that lifts this beyond a mechanistic composition.
Whilst the technique of movement through the use of a slow shutter speed was seen in many of the submissions, this one stood out for me. The gentleman with his traditional Shtreimel hat makes an interesting subject, but more importantly his blurred facial features as he turns towards the camera really capture a sense of walking past in a very effective way.
A fantastic viewpoint that adds a different perspective and has been expertly executed. Compositionally we have a strong diagonal leading to the face on the poster, whilst the synchronicity of of movement provides two grounded feet and two moving feet as people pass in opposite directions. Well done - keep thinking differently!
This has a very contemporary, stylised feel to it, with harmonious blue/brown colours and striking shapes. For me, the decisive moment has been caught beautifully, just a fraction of a second before his heel strikes the ground with the (Billingham?) bag providing a good compositional counter-balance.

A well observed slice of everyday life for a wildlife photographer! I love the action and captured moment but sadly it is not a picture I was able to consider, as it was not on brief. This competition was for people walking past walls, rather than those attempting to photograph terns. Hopefully it will do well in another competition.

***This contest is open to subscribers (members on the Challenger, Pro and Master subscription tiers). However if you're not a paying subscriber you can still purchase entries for £2 (GBP) per image.*** ‘People walking past walls’ might sound unusually niche, but it’s actually a popular Instagram tag with more than 100k posts attributed to it. There’s an account, too, solely dedicated to this surprisingly creative subject. It turns out walls, especially unusual or interesting ones, make a striking backdrop to the everyday movements of somebody going about their day.
