Pets in Action

January 2025

This shot is so incredibly captivating, from the frozen action of the leaping dog to the soft oranges and greens of the background. I especially love those bright eyes- they draw the viewer right in. Portraiture of this kind is quite difficult and this image was executed flawlessly.

The concentration of the rider here is what caught my attention immediately, mirrored intensity with the horse. This is a stunning capture of action- totally sharp and with quite a few interesting elements that make the scene far more interesting than other equestrian sports images to me. I love the curve of the stadium overhead and the shapes of the architecture all around. Very unique and compelling composition.

The frozen action here is simply delightful- these two look like they're up to some fun! I love the shape their bodies make together frozen in action. Cats are a challenging subject and you have done a great job creating a compelling image of your subject in motion.

I have seen quite a few shots using this concept but I absolutely love the texture of the fabric in this one! I think the riot of different colors and weaves of the cloth really complement the cat bursting through paw-first. This really is such a cool photograph to me and I commend the photographer for creating a very interesting composition to compliment the subject.

What I love most about this shot is the chaos, such an effective capturing of the action here. I love the blurred figure of the horse, still so recognizable in form despite the abstraction of itself. This image is captivating and does a great job of representing the energy of this competition.

This radiant image drew me right in immediately as the viewer and I am so compelled by your beautiful rendering of the subject. This lovely dog is captured perfectly frozen mid-leap with determination clear on its face and body language. I love the ears especially. The ethereal glow of the forest is a perfect backdrop here and you did a fantastic job on this shot.

This image is stunning, especially how the dog appears to be gazing into the setting sun. The eyeline match between the subject and the distant horizon provides great tension in the scene, and the long shadows thrown across the sand are beautiful as they meld into the shadows. This is a beautifully well done image.

This image took my breath away, I am in love with it. I love the softness of the sky and the leading lines of the gentle ocean, a perfect scene for the streaking figure of your subject. Capturing slow shutter motion instead of freezing the action was an excellent artistic choice here and this is definitely one of my very favorite images from the contest as a whole. Amazing work!

Running, leaping, flying, climbing - and whatever else your pet gets up to when it’s up and on the go!

This image is such a cool concept with the colored powder, and what an excellent subject matter to pair! I love the angle of the shot and the dark background setting off the bold colors of the powder. The fierce determination of the collie is quite apparent in this scene, fantastic work.

This image is absolutely gorgeous, I especially love the position of the sun against the silhouette of the rider and his horse. Both figures are captured perfectly, exceptionally well done on the composition. I am a big fan of silhouetted images but believe it is very important for the subjects to be perfectly legible as they are here. This is a phenomenal photograph!

I love this shot of a dog at play, what a kind face and genuine expression. The image is quite well captured and I love the balance of the subject cutting across the photograph at a sort of diagonal angle, opposing any rigidity you typically see in shots like this. The scene is also beautiful, the soft fall colors really bring out the subject and highlight the beauty of the image.

This image caught my attention right away, what a capture! This cat is so funny buried in the snow, tail straight up in the air. It is rare I enjoy an image without eye contact so much but I think the subject and composition are strong enough to make it a very compelling portrait.

I absolutely love the tension in this photo, especially how the stalking cat matches with the leading line of the wrought iron fence. The viewer's eye is lead through the story of the image, from predator to prey. Hopefully the crow was able to escape in time! This is a great narrative piece and one of my favorites of the contest overall.

The tension and lighting in this image is absolutely phenomenal. I especially love the backlit hair flying through the air from the scuffle. Great work to the photographer for capturing such a compelling composition of these two subjects- I love how the eye is drawn right into the action by the dynamic highlights.

I love this adorable portrait, so much personality and charisma in one image. That mouthful of leaves adds so much to the shot. The eye contact with those gorgeous yellow eyes is quite heartwarming. I also love all the out of focus leaves in the background, captures the atmosphere of the scene quite nicely. Well shot!

I adore the emotion in this image, the cat seems so serious about his dash through the snow! Capturing a cat in action is a particularly difficult task as they certainly are not nearly as cooperative as dogs. This image is a fantastic capture, I love the soft scene and beautiful gold fur, and the sharp focus of the eyes.
