A closely fought contest, but this image was my eventual winner. The composition is simple but effective and there is a lovely rustic feel to the shot which suits the subject. Lighting on the potatoes is great, looking to be natural light falling from the side, which creates depth and form to the basket of spuds. Colouring looks natural, again in keeping with the subject. Congratulations on your winning image.
An interesting concept, displaying some ordinary spuds on an ornate cake stand, which somehow seems strangely normal! The image works well in black and white and it takes on the look of a piece of art rather than a snapshot. Lighting is good, which makes the most of the potatoes and highlights all the little details. Well done on your top ten placing.
It is not often that potatoes can be viewed like this, as by the time they are harvested they have detached from the rest of the plant. Your errant potato certainly makes for an interesting photographic subject, and you have skillfully realised its potential for a great shot. Set against thd black background really makes the potato, leaves and roots stand out. Maybe a shame the subject is so long and thin which gives limited options regarding format, but you have certainly made the best of the subject. Congratulations on your third place finish

One of the essential skills for photographing food is the ability to capture the food in a way that makes it look tempting and delicious. You have certainly succeeded here, as these roasted potatoes with a sprinkling of herbs and spices look lovely. The colours are strong but look natural, and is especially appealing with the golden yellow set off against the black background. Great image, well done on your top ten placing.
Lavender and potatoes may not be the most natural bedfellows, but yhe subjects certainly make fod an interesting still-life composition. The sprouting potatoes are magnificent and look to have taken on a completely different life-form, and certainly deserve to be shown off. Lighting of the subjects is lovely, with darker tones dominating, but the image still has plenty of lighter tones, including the cream vase, to keep the image lifted. Super image, well done on your top ten placing.

A great shot showcasing a tub of skin-on fries. Captured with a wide aperture and shooting close-up to the subject has created a shallow depth of field, which gives the image more impact. Lighting looks natural, meaning the colouring is also natural, allowing the food to look tempting and tasty. Well done on your top ten placing.
Potatoes is what I asked for; potatoes is what I got!!. Certainly no denying that this image meets the brief, with potatoes filling the entire frame. Some may find such frame-filling shots lacking interest, but I find quite the oppisite, with plenty of details for the eye to explore, and look over the differences and similarities between all of the individual elements. Well exposed, well focused, great image. Well done on your top ten placing.
A simple but well executed still life of some potatoes. Lighting is great, creating some good highlights and shadows to reveal plenty of details and the form of the potatoes. The backdrop works in harmony with the subject, being richly coloured but not distracting. I may have been tempted to crop in less tightly to leave a little more 'breathing space' around the bowl and potatoes, but still a great image. Well done on your top ten placing.

In this contest I would like to see your photos of potatoes. Images could show anything from potatoes being grown or sold, potato dishes being prepared, cooked or eaten, to creative still-life shots of potatoes and potato snacks. The potato, potato dish or potato product must be clearly visible and the main focus of your image. If you enter photos of snacks such as potato crisps/chips, please do not just show the packaging; the product must be visible too. Entries can be in colour or black and white. I look forward to seeing your images.
