I loved the evening light and atmosphere on these buildings. Very often you can get sky with dark clouds overhead, but the sun sets in the distance and it creates this amazing intensity of light. One of those times when you just have to take a shot, no matter what camera you have on you.

This is the winning shot for me. Dramatic side light truly brings out the shapes of this building and the design of the windows. The photographer has made the building which might have looked fairly ordinary to a person in the street, extra-ordinary. Powerful in black and white.

Fairly mysterious, I first didn't understand what I was looking at with this shot. Then realising that this is a building surrounded by fog, it's dreamy, and atmospheric. Especially as it is shot on Christmas Day. The people who live in this building clearly are treated with foggy views. Nicely composed with the building slightly beneath the camera, and not breaking the horizon. Nice work.

This is a shot which I would imagine many photographers have taken over the years, but it doesn't get any less interesting. Old and new captured in the same shot, and a clash of architectural styles and uses. Great to show a city's vibe and how it's made up.

Love the composition, light and colours in this shot. The red, green and deep blues work so well together. The buildings are inviting as the lights are on and they have a warm light, whereas the outside is snowy and cold.

This image gave me a very warm feeling, of a quintessential English cottage and garden. Gorgeous evening light, and autumn season. The cottage taken as a 3/4 view, makes the building feel cube shaped. Like the gate in the foreground.

Beautifully balanced and exposed, using F/22, and shot at ISO 100. This image has everything. Gorgeous light, an amazing backdrop of snowy peaks, and the building painted a rich red colour which reflects in the calm water in the foreground.

This shot answers the brief really well, with lots of different facades of buildings together in one row. Very often like so many streets in Amsterdam. But this image works particularly well thanks to the shaft of evening light. Nice shot, well captured.

I had to make a comment about this shot. Lovely randomness of the street and the art positioned sticking out of the roof. Works all the better with the two cars, one either side giving it balance. It totally suits the UK, but is the sort of image you might find taken in Camden.

The pink colour of this house is striking, and makes the building almost float in the landscape. I like the connection the pink has to the morning or evening light. Liked the fact that the photographer positions the building dead centre too.

A very dramatic and detailed shot of a building showing so much history. Like an old wrinkled face, scared from a changing environment and use. I am struggling to understand how the photographer has lit this shot, as it almost appears like the building had several lights on it. The drama is increased with darkened skies and snow.

I thought this was a great shot. Symmetry, atmosphere, heritage, nice light, perfect. It's great to know that such streets still exist in the UK, which haven't been ruined by modern day changes. It doesn't look like hot would have changed in about 300 years. 16mm is a nice width to capture such a scene too.

Great shot of a bay with buildings piled one above the other. Evening light gives the view a lovely warmth and vibrancy. It feels like a busy place, but with many interesting facets to it. Probably a photographers dream. F/11 and ISO 160 gives this shot great detail and focus, and quality.

Love the simplicity of this shot of a street with several facades of buildings face on. Works really well with the couple walking right in the centre of the shot. Love the light of the golden hour against the deep blue sky. The shapes of the tops of the buildings are striking.

Wow, awesome shot of St Georges Wharf. It almost makes you think it stands alone, but of course it doesn't. Perfectly balanced, and with moving sky and water, it truly does the building proud. I would imagine this is exactly how the architects would have liked the building to be captured. A great shot.

We’re heading home sweet home for this architectural photography contest, and looking at the myriad styles and techniques that are employed to build the places we live in. From cookie cutter estate houses to lavish creations of the rich and powerful, every house has a different flavour, and is often shaped not just by budget, but also by the country and part of the world in which it is built.
