Great contest!

This is an amazing close up and captures the unique beauty of an Abalone shell. It is perfectly composed to focus on the centre, creating interest for the viewer. The beautiful iridescent colours shine out and the texture draws the eye in.

Simple, but beautifully composed. The arrangement looks natural , while the shells have been arranged to show off their best features. The range of textures and shapes really stand out in black and white. The white background also makes this image more striking.

Such a startling photo! I have always wondered what a Conch actually looks like inside. The composition is very effective giving all the focus to the Conch rather than the background or overall scene. The light also draws the eye to the shiny creature.

There are so many varied and interesting seashells to be found on the sea shore. Whether on the beach or in a different context sea shells can be so beautiful. Try to think of original ways of incorporating them into your photo.

The unique contrasting colour combination in this photo make a simple scallop shell look amazing. The texture and pattern of the shell stands out against the interesting background.. The clear highlights and shadows add to the interest for the viewer.

I love the stark contrast between the dull sand and the iridescent mussel shell. The composition is also made interesting by the positioning of the shell to one side of the photo. Light and focus are perfect in bringing out the textures of both the shell and sand.

This is a real stand out picture! The symmetry and the reflection in the water draw the eye in.. The texture and colour of the shell also give extra interest to the viewer. The light perfectly creates highlights and shadows which add the success of this photo.

The natural composition of the picture makes it stand out from the rest. The colour and texture on these mussel shells are beautifully captured. The light shines perfectly on the shells revealing the range of colours and stripped pattern that could be missed.

This is a really striking photo. Although it is not actually a shell, spiral sculpture is clearly intended to represent a shell. The subdued light perfectly highlights the texture on the sculpture and creates a beautiful silhouette. It makes you want to be by the sea.

The composition of this photo is very clever. I love the way your eye is still drawn to the tiny shell in the foreground despite the interesting background. This is a great example of shallow depth of focus. The light is perfect for this type of shot and the reflection in the sand adds to the overall effect.

I love the way the shape of the shell reminds you of a flower. The black and white photo helps to highlight the beautiful shape and draws your eye right to the centre of the shell. The composition is simple but effective.
