Wonderful brown/orange tones in this image. A truly analogous sea of color. Your wide aperture selection for this shot makes the bird pop out from his camouflage. Having the foreground and the background out of focus adds to the depth of the image. Great sharp detail and a remarkable capture.. Well done and congratulations on being my number one selection.

A stunning macro shot. The seeds at the front are tack sharp with a softening fall off in the middle top of the frame. But somehow you have managed to maintain the hair detail around the whole of the seed head. A great shot, well done and congratulations on making my top ten selection.

What an excellent portrait in the style of the old masters. I admire that you had a vision in mind and set out to capture that image. Using a wide aperture and that right balance of subdued lighting you have achieved your goal. Well done and congratulations on making my top ten selection.

An unusual head on shot of a paper wasp. Any image that takes a different viewpoint attracts attention. You have made the eyes really pop with perfect focus and a shallow depth of field. Great contrast against the soft yellow green background. Your decision to place the eyes in a central position works very well. A great in your face shot, well done and congratulations on making my top ten selection.

An excellent portrait style street shot. This is a great example of what can be achieved using a long focal length and a wide aperture. The head nicely positioned off center and very sharp. It is surrounded by a sea of out of focus heads. The toning of the image is first rate and I suspect Nik software may have been used. I personally may have cropped out the two light spots at the top of the frame, but they hardly compete against the penetrating gaze of the face in the crowd. Well done and congratulations on making my top ten selection

Using a wide aperture on a camera lens creates a narrow depth of field. This technique is often used to keep the main focal point sharp while the rest of the image is soft and unfocused, to direct the viewers eye to the point of interest while still making a pleasing image and telling a story. Show me your best images that have been created in camera using a narrow depth of field. Your image may be any subject, in either colour or black and white.
