This photograph immediately draws the viewer in with its strong atmosphere and emotional impact. The composition is thoughtfully handled, with the building prominently positioned while still showcasing the sweeping hills behind it that add shape and context to the image. The aperture of f11 keeps both the church and the snow incredibly crisp and well-defined, with the exception of some snowflakes that are pleasingly blurred by movement. The small white building sits in great contrast with the subdued soft greens, muted browns, and the grey stormy sky, immediately attracting the viewer's eye. This image feels both powerful and serene at the same time, holding a calm strength that makes it as memorable as compelling.

In this image, vibrant and full of character, elements like colour, architecture and reflection come together in a charming and visually engaging way. The f3.2 aperture keeps the buildings sharply defined while allowing the reflections to soften just enough to create a painterly effect. The colour scheme is rich yet harmonious, with warm reds and muted greens that stand out against the cloudy sky. The composition is simple yet efficient, with the buildings forming a strong vertical rhythm in the background while the rippled reflections add movement and texture in the foreground. This is a distinctive and inviting image that is technically well executed and feels as lively as it does timeless.

This capture bursts with charm and character thanks to its vibrant cluster of buildings scattered across the rocky hillside. The colour scheme is wonderfully lively. Reds, yellows, blues and greens contrast beautifully with the muted tones of the rocks and sea. The composition is particularly worthy of mention, guiding the eye naturally from corner to corner of the frame along the cliff and through the homes. Even though the buildings are scattered across the hill, the composition makes the scene look neat and tidy, showing a great eye on the photographer’s part. Sharpness is consistent throughout, enhancing the texture of both structures and terrain. This image is joyful, uplifting, and thoughtfully curated in its details, making it both very engaging and satisfying to look at.

**This contest is open to photographers ranked between 251 and 1000 in this week’s Leaderboard.** Big, iconic architecture might get all the headlines, but back in the real world the majority of buildings being built are much smaller, and the efforts of the architects and construction firms responsible are often unsung. But all their skills are in evidence when a building on a small scale successfully achieves everything required of its larger cousin, just within a reduced volume. And as questions of energy usage, land availability and construction costs become ever more important, smaller buildings seem to provide a lot of the answers. Acceptable images can be of any small building, from a house, to a folly, to public buildings and beyond, and can be buildings of any age. Both exterior and interior shots wlecomed.
