Great contest!

I love this rather unusual viewpoint capturing the well-sculptured derrière of this statue! By dividing the frame in two, we get a great impression of both the statue and the setting, giving context to the shot. Tones and colours are great, with good textures captured on the artwork and the buildings. Well observed and well captured, well done on your top ten placing.

An interesting statue at any time, but this image makes the most of the subject through the capture if its associated shadows. The shadows are crisp and well defined shapes, but are not so dark as to oblierate the background. Everything is well composed and framed, with the blockwork on the back wall being nicely aligned and so easy on the eye. Great image, well done on your top ten placing.

In judging this contest, I was looking for either a great documentary of the statue, showing the details and artistry of the craftsperson, or a shot of a statue that was in some way different, and captured my attention. This image certainly drew my attention, and it goes far beyond being just a photo of a statue. The artist has clearly positioned their work to be in an important location in the city, but the way it has been captured from behind, brings a certain mood to the image, and along with the processing style, maybe a slight sense of melancholy. Thank you for the added detail in the written description, as the contextual information adds interest too. Congratulations on your winning image.

The statues themselves are the stars of this image, but the way they have been captured assists in the storytelling initiated by the sculptural artist. The overall darker tones ensure thinbs ard kept suitably grim, but there are sufficient highlights to ensure form and textures etc are not lost, and that the statues remain distinct from the background. Congratulations on your second place finish.

This image caught my attention as soon as I saw it, with a shot that perfectly captures both the skill of the artist, and the fabulous textures on the weathered wood. The processing treatment of the background sets off the sculpture really well. We are close enough in to see the expression carved in the face, along with the windswept hair giving the impression of battling the elements on the coast. Lighting is good, also helping reveal the wonderful textures. Great image, well done on your top ten placing.

This image was a late entry into my top ten, and the rather unusual viewpoint and the flashes of brightness in the backdground all add to the interest and impact of the shot. The bold colours add to the creativity of the image too. The decision to get down low and use a wide angle has worked well, as we get so much more than a standard record shot of a piece of city sculpture. Great image, well done on your top ten placing.

A strong and impactful image, making great use of light and shade to bring the scene to life. Great conversion to black and white, with bold contrasts to ensure the image grabs the attention. Composition works well, accentuating the meaning behind the statue, and I like the contrast between the two halves of the framr, with the figure against the plain backdrop on one side, and the strong bright shapes and patterns on the other. Congratulations on your third place finish.

Being born and raised in Nottingham, I couln't help but be attracted to this statue of this local legend. The processing style suits the subject, with lovely contrasts between the rich darker tones and the brighter highlights on the surface of the statue. Composition and framing works well to create a shot full of impact. Great work, well done on your top ten placing.

Although relatively small in the frame, this statue is clearly the subject of the shot, as she stands beside the tree in what could be a secret spot in the garden, waiting to be discovered. The varying greens have been well captured; not always easy to get the colours looking natural. Aside from the statue, there sre plenty of details in the different types and shapes of foliage to hold the attention and get a sense of the lovely freshness of the setting. Well done on your top ten placing.

I love this capture of a sunny autumnal riverside urban scene, with the seated statue inviting us to sit a while and take in the surroundings. Lighting is lovely, looking to be captured in the golden hour of the morning or evening, and the reflections on the calm waters add to the scene, but do not dominate. Composition is spot on, with the statue well placed in the frame. There are many opposing lines and angles throughout the image, but these do not jar at all, and all contribute to the strength of the shot. An image I appreciate more the longer I look. Great work, well done on your top ten placing.
