Steam Locomotives

Re-enactments provide myriad photo opportunities, and looking at this photo, we could be stepping back in time to the busy steam age 100 years ago. The lighting, composition, muted colors, steam and worker all come together into this piece of art. Beautifully executed, and congratulations on 3rd Place in Steam Locomotives!

At a Steam Gala, it's a pleasure to see this locomotive pulling freight cars as it evokes the working era of steam. The composition is excellent and the engine is perfectly sharp, with a very slight fading of focus on the rest of the composition. The overcast day helped prevent high contrast so the entire train is visible. Great photo, and congratulations on 4th Place in Steam Locomotives!

Coal is the basis of steam locomotives and this photo of the worker shoveling into the firebox is excellent. There's a sense that it is hard work but extremely important to keep an engine running. The cab instruments show how complicated a steam locomotive is, and the worker's costume complete with coal dust evokes a bygone era. This is a magical shot so nicely executed! The engine is clear and in focus while the swirling steam creates its own eye-catching view. This is an amazing locomotive, well captured. The engine is clearly visible with excellent detail and there is a sense of the wide open spaces on the Denver-Cheyenne route.
