Steam Trains Showing Steam Trails

What a great photo! I must admit that I am somewhat biased in including this image in my top 10 as Porthmadog is my home town. Having photographed the Ffestiniog railway many times myself I know this image will have taken some time and planning. I love the way the train and smoke plume is captured within this beautiful landscape. Fond memories, so thank you for this submission.

I love this image as it uses the complete steam plume to create a real sense of drama around the train as it approaches the station. The wind effect, rotating the plume above the train is very well captured and uses the available light to enhance the scene. Could well have come straight out of an Agatha Christie novel.

I love this image. What a great capture as the steam train emerges I believe from the tunnel. The smoke plume is beautifully captured and intensified around the train as a consequence. Great composition with the train and track positioned in the frame against this stunning Scottish background.. Well worth the time and effort to capture and execute.

Nice image capturing the steam train and trailing smoke plume beautifully in the landscape. The image is well balanced with the train prominent in the scene as it should be, bounded by the dramatic coloring of the flora with the rainbow in the sky all reflected on the lake (river) as it passes by. Well captured.

One of my favourite submissions as it is quite unusual and stands out from the very many heritage railway images which have been submitted. Capturing a working steam train in this cold and stark environment will have required some planning. The winter scene and cold temperature enhances the plume and isolates the train against the background. Well done.
