The photograph you donìt expect currently in a street photo contest is the winning image to me, reminding of Susan Meiselas photos, it looks already a classic. Often we forget how much is important that a photograph presents a connection with what we are in front of us, and one of the most important things I judge in a photo apart the formal aspect like composition and aesthetics is for sure the empathy with the subjects we photograph. This photograph is funny, and we get into the situation. The image is powerful, the importance of the picture is offered also from the ladies behind, with a different age respect to the main subjects. All of them are smiling and this is another great feature in the image.
Too many people judge people photographed from behind today as bad street photography. I don't agree. If you are familiar to make an example with the work of Stephen Shore you know that by photographing people backs we can concentrate attention on other details like the urban context. It creates also a sense of mistery and it raises the fantasy of the viewer. Sometimes it can be also a respectous choice.

This is a total out of competition image, and still I like it. Despite I can't think to put an award on this one, I like the craziness of the color and I could imagine this one printed on a wall at home. It is artsy and I really like as something giving color to a place, so I appreciate the mood of this artistic creation and I hope to be forgiven not giging abn award in this contest.
In this photograph I can feel energy,: for energy I mean that particular tension that pushes the observer to observe more and more an image. The energy doesn't focus on perfect composition, the moment captured is more important, and this photograph achieves to be in motion. Look at the kd exactly under the pink horses baloons and I think one of the gems in this photo is in the corner with that newborn baby sleeping.
Ok, how much we have seen a showcase with an interrogating expression on a human face? A lot. Also I did it. But hey, here I like the minimal aesthetic thats is the strenght of the picture. this is a good example how a photograph sometimes doesn't need many elememnts and by maintaining a certain simplicity arrives straight to the point for the viewer to see.
How many times we thought to be voyeurs when making photographs? Well, this is one of the images clearly declaring this. The structure is very well solved, with a geometric formalism that saw and created boxes where any square could be a photograph. The photograph could be a reflection about our lives and how we are living in a big brother era. The result is very cinematic and pretty cool.
I really don't know what is happened in the scanning phase, but I really like the image. I think is very important also today that street photographs present the human in the urban context and not just focused on people. In this image I can see an attention for the composition and I can obtain a lot of elements that are informations for the viewer.
This photograph is a perfect example that in the streets sometimes we photograph a mistery moment. I have several questions on this image, but I think is great the fantasy is raised up from this. Well balanced and composed image too. When we photograph not anything is completely undersstabndable, and sometimes is just an instintive reaction to a stimuli. Sometimes we photograph a gasp moment as Joel Meyerowitz stated, that presents a union of elements that make us think to the onomatopeic word wow. And I think this is the case.

This photograph is a classic to my eyes. I love the photograph but I think is something more intimate for all the books read and the study made. the composition is prettu good, creating a natural frame inside where we can see the peopl and the cars on the street. It reminds me the book AMERICANS by Robert Frank.

Some of the most revered and iconic photographers of all time have been masters of street photography. The chance way of taking these shots, based on unmediated encounters and random incidences, makes this one of the most candid styles of photography there is. It's amazing what you come across by just walking down the street with your camera... Give it a go.
