Struggles of Winter

The essence of this contest was to capture people facing the hardships and struggles of winter conditions. There are a number of photos that imply people, with vehicles and boats. There are others that show people having fun in the snow. I did not include those in my top ten. I was looking for this! In my opinion, this one perfectly demonstrates the harshness of winter by showing this poor woman burrowed into her coat, yellow gloved hands tightly clutching her hood around her face while the snow blows fiercely. Bravo on creating my top choice for this contest.

There were several interesting shots of someone riding a bicycle in the snow. This one is my favourite. I think the black and white works really well for this contest because it helps create the mood to emphasize the struggles of cycling in winter. You’ve also captured more struggles happening in the background, which holds my interest and makes me look more deeply into the photo. Thanks for entering my contest.

While I didn’t initially consider this photo as a winning example of winter struggles, I kept coming back to it. It’s a self-imposed struggle, something passionate photographers do to themselves. But it’s a great photo. The blizzard conditions are amazing, and the photo is sharp and well composed. I admire the stamina and dedication it takes to capture a photo like this!

I love how this photo makes me stop and look every time. It’s a great composition. The plowed line coming in at an angle against the whiteness of the rest of the scene is quite striking. Shot from above, you've captured the scene very effectively. Thank you for entering the contest.

This is my favourite of all of the snowblower photos. I love how the blown snow almost obliterates the man doing the work, and wipes out the background almost completely. You can feel the conditions that make his necessary job a struggle. I would have touched up that dark spot on the bottom left, but all in all, a wonderful composition.

This is a very good example of showing human struggles in winter conditions. The body language alone speaks to their discomfort . It’s well composed with the bright colours of their winter garb against the stark whiteness or their surroundings. Well done, thanks for entering my contest.
