Stunning Rome

Congratulations on 10th place!

I have been to the Vatican 3 times and yet have not made it to visit this beautiful staircase. There were a few different beautiful photos of this staircase in this contest and all the photos have reminded me to make a point of going to visit this staircase on my next trip to Rome. You have captured the variety of colours and the various contrasts in this spiral staircase. The greens are highlighted with blasts of gold throughout which are complemented by the warm lighting. I love the intricate design on the handrail and the simplicity of the stairs themselves.

For some reason,, this photo makes me smile every time I look at it. I know this street in Rome. I love the blue hour capture which can be seen clearly in the reflections on the cobbled street. The blue reflection leads our eyes directly back to the structure at the back of the photo. I like how you have kept the street in focus and not the structure at the end of the street. The photo's yellow from the street lamps almost envelope or frame the blue. A very well framed photo. Thank you for sharing with us.

I loved this photo from the first time I saw it. How you were able to get a photo at the Basilica when it was empty is such a feat. I think putting it in black and white was a great idea as it changes the mood of the photo. The lone priest in an empty Basilica to me, really sums up their life. Such a beautiful photo. Well done.

The colours in your photo are simply beautiful and very eye catching. The twilight sky is a terrific backdrop for the magnificent Colosseum. You have pictured many stunning contrasting colours which all blend superbly well together, the various colours of the building itself, the internal and external lights, the street lights in the background and then, tiny stars in the night sky to add extra twinkle! This is a beautiful image with so much ambiance attached despite being such a simple photo. The black and white has added significantly to the mood. Rome is filled with really old buildings and parts of buildings, but turning your image to black and white makes it magnetic. Rome is incredibly busy with tourists and therefore to be able to capture this photo with one person, is an achievement! I love the shadows and the perspective between the person and the magnificence of the pillars. Beautiful photo. Well done
