Summer Vibes

To me, summer is very much about escaping the chaos and pace of everyday life and taking the time to reflect and recharge, and this feeling is something I was hoping would be successfully captured in this contest. This photo most definitely does that; through the use of a soft colour scheme and a minimalist composition combined perfectly, resulting in an image that really exudes feelings of peace and tranquillity.

A lot of good photography comes down to a combination of perfect planning as well as making the most of moments as they happen. This images displays this perfectly, as clear thought has gone into positioning this composition so that the sun sits at the right spot between the gap in the buildings, topped off with the well-timed birds in the sky which work brilliantly as a subtle contrast to the dramatic outline of the buildings.

There was a high number of aerial shots in this contest but this one really stood out as one of the few that made creative use of the strong directional lighting that this angle can provide.

The colours here are vibrant and striking whilst also not being so overpowering that they take away from the delicate subtlety of the composition, and the framing of the image has also been well considered so that it contains a nice amount of negative space whilst also not leaving the image feeling empty.

Not only is it visually stunning but it also truly captures one of the experiences that makes summer so special - exploring incredible places with your friends and family. Well done!

A truly great image that is bursting with energy and life. The dynamic shapes of the water in the air lead the viewer's eye around the image and encourages them to take in every detail of it, and the crispness of the backdrop adds to the overall cohesiveness of the composition. It is evident that the photographer's choice of camera settings has been very well considered in this image, as the timing of the shot and the complete freezing of the movement is spot on - which can be very challenging to accomplish when so much is going on.

This image stood out to me as a slightly less idealistic take on the traditional summer's day - displaying the vast amount of over-crowding that occurs at so many popular tourist spots.

I chose to rank this image highly as it manages to display an atmosphere that can be quite unpleasant while still displaying a strong, visually pleasing style with the angle and colour scheme used - the shapes and colours almost resemble a patchwork quilt at a first glance, which I found to be very creative and unique.
