I took to this image for two reasons. Firstly the colour of the Lavender was not oversaturated, as was the case with many entries, but retained that natural Lavender hue. Also the leading lines, formed by the rows of Lavender, led my eye over the horizon and down into a hollow below the hedgerow. What mysteries lie there I wondered.?
My thanks to everyone who entered my competition with such enthusiasm. The high standard of entries made judging really difficult. However, I eventually chose this image as my winner, as it not only fulfilled the brief exactly, but also showed great use of leading lines, which take the eye to the tree on the horizon. Importantly, the colour of the lavender was not over saturated. Additionally the image also provides foreground interest, with the inspired choice of a sunflower on a rustic chair. Conjuring up an image of the Provence region of France. There were many entries featuring Lavender fields but, for me, this was the stand-out image. Congratulations.

This image caught my eye several times during the review process. I find it quite evocative, with the subtle lavender colour reflected so perfectly in the water. The notes, which accompany the work, tell of stitching together 16 images to produce this final picture. This demonstrates both great skill and much patience. The result is magnificent.

The location of this picture isn't given , but I know, because I have been there, that this is the entrance to the lavender fields at Lordington in West Sussex. Indeed my banner photograph was taken in this very field. What I like about this picture is firstly, the nice framing of the field by the trees and hedgerows, but also secondly, there is an air of anticipation, as the goal of the lavender field is clearly visible, as you descend the hill. Not quite a top ten winner, but a great shot.
