The moon

A striking image, with lots of atmosphere. The colours work well, and cascade from the sky down along the snow on the mountains. The image is well composed with the peak of the mountain and moon sitting centrally, and that makes for a strong central bias, that draws the viewer in. the light wisps of clouds soften the image and reflect the last of the light across the sky area, adding an additional and interesting image. The waning crescent moon is much stronger than having a full moon, and for this image works very well. An overall very pleasing image and a worthy winner.

A powerful image and the use of a long focal length lens has compressed the image bringing the moon further forwards and adding a lot of impact. The clouds add another element, and they are lit in different colours which are complimentary to each other. The mountain and lift structure have lots of impact, which are then supported by the position and size of the moon in the frame. Not seeing the full moon, adds drama and additional interest to the image. All the aforementioned elements pull together to make this very dramatic and interesting image.

A well composted image with the crescent moon in a central position, almost crowning the statue below. The horizontal elements are spot on. with good details in the statue. The clear sky allows the statue to really stand out from the background and the moon being in just the right position, completes this lovely image and makes for a strong composition. Light levels throughout are well balanced and overall this is a very pleasing image that has been handled very well.
