Two or More People on the Beach

A very striking shot and an image I just kept coming back to time and again over the course of judging this contest. I love the high contrast you have here - particularly between the perfectly sharp silhouettes of the family against the sun glinting off the sea beyond. The composition is perfect and the black and white processing suits it perfectly. Well done indeed on your winning entry.

Yet another image I kept coming back to and which I loved the moment I saw it. It was obviously a bright day with the sun looking like it was directly overhead - with all the potential difficulties that may bring - but I think the processing is perfect, with a nice overall documentary feel. I like the low F number you must have used, to pick out the nearest child with her back to the camera, but keeping her friends in relative focus. The fact they all have their backs to the camera just adds to the story. Very nice and well done on your 2nd placing.

I love the overall vintage style processing you have here - it works well. I also like the stark contrast afforded by the older lady gingerly leading the toddler off across the beach. Whilst I'm not entirely sure with regards what appears to be a degree of noise within the sky area I like what I see, and thank you for your entry.

Another shot that just kept me coming back for another look. I particularly like the composition - not to everyone's taste perhaps - but it's that and the overall retro feel afforded by the processing that drew me in, with the stripes on the windbreaks and parasol adding nicely to the whole scene. There were a good few shots depicting the same subject matter as this one in the competition - relatives on the beach with young children enjoying the moment. However, it was this shot that stood out for me - from the excellent low vantage point, to the foreground interest of the sea foam and onto the perfect positioning of the people in the shot. Simple but effective - well done on your top 10 placing.

A shot that is completely after my own heart. The contrast, composition and overall drama of what I will assume is a winter stroll on the beach are all perfectly represented here - and I do love the overall cooler tones which somehow accentuate and add to the scene. Like the other 3 shots above this one in the top 4, this was yet another shot I did more than one double take on. Again, I like the overall vintage feel afforded by the processing and the pure and simple documentary of two people enjoying the view over the beach before them.
