Although the subject here is obvious, I love the abstract way it has been captured and presented. A simple composition of bright lines that has such strong impact. I cannot know if the formation of road markings is exactly as seen or assembled in editing, but whatever, it makes for an interesting and eye-catching image of a rather mundane feature of the urban landscape. Congratulations on your second place finish.
An interesting perspective on the cables of the bridge and the buildings looming behind. Captured with a long lens has given a compressed perspective that adds to the abstract of the composition. Importantly, the subject fills the frame which helps remove context, again adding to the abstract. The limited colour palette works well, giving full focus to the lines, shapes and patterns within the image. Well done on your top ten placing.
With abstract images, simple is often the best, and here we get a great example of simplicity at its best, with just three sets of lines and shapes, in strong monochrome, contained nicely within a square frame. I hope the image is a version of reality and not a computer-generated image, as it shows a keen eye for the clever use of lines, shapes and patterns. I think I can detect what looks like a slither of the moon in the upper dark section, which does help prevent the shot looking too clinical. A fabulous image, well done on your top ten placing.
A rather unusual composition of just a few simple elements, but it works well to create an eye-catching image. I am unsure if the placement of the structures are as found or whether some are additions into the image, but whatever, it has a great effect. In the image decription you say some elements like wires were removed, but I think it was wise to keep in the two little structures on top of the building now coloured yellow, as otherwise the shot may have become too sterile and become more like a set of digitally created shapes. Instead we get a simple but striking urban abstract. Congratulations on your third place finish.
A subject most would pass by without a second glance, and never even consider looking further, let alone taking the camera out to photograph them! Here though, by recognising the potential in such a mundane subject, we are treated to a fabulous abstract image. As with many successful abstract images, it is not immediately obvious what we are looking at or the scale of the subject etc., which all adds to the success of the shot. Super capture, well done on your top ten placing.
Set amongst images of stunning modern architecture, a set of post boxes may not be everyone's choice for top spot, but this image stood out for me as soon as I saw it and was always a likely top three contender. A strong photographic eye has realised the potential in the subject for a great shot, and by filling the frame and removing all context, we get a more abstract composition of colours, shapes and patterns. Everything is well captured technically, and brought together in a superb image well-deserving of first place. Congratulations on your winning image.
What an interesting image, looking rather like a painted artwork. I cannot be sure, but I imagine we are seeing buildings reflected in water, which is then reflected back in the glass of a building. The individual panes create multiple mini abstract pictures within a picture, creating a wonderful effect overall. The colours are very pleasing on the eye too. Great image, well done on your top ten placing.

This was a late entry into my top ten but was an image I kept coming back to. Captured using a relatively long lens, the perspective has been flattened somewhat, which increases the abstract, and creates the impression what we are viewing a flat canvas with contrasting paint daubs, highlighted with white. This creates interest to draw the viewer in, to further explore and try to understand. Great image, well done on your top ten placing.

A fascinating image that is not immediately obvious on first viewing, and from a distance looks rather like the balconied windows of a block of flats, with one stand-out apartment having red window shutters instead of white. Paying the image a little more attention however reveals the true subject, which has been well captured from directly overhead to get a good line-up of verticals and horizontals for maximum impact. I don't know if the colouring, with multiple white and a solo red is as seen or whether manipulated, but whichever, it makes for a great abstract shot. Well done on your top ten placing.

I would like to see your abstract photos that have been captured in an urban setting. Please ensure the abstract is part of the image at the point of capture, rather than adding special editing effects and abstract filters in post-processing. Images could show any subject that is found in a town or city. The abstract element of the image could be created, for example, by the composition, the perspective or viewpoint, or maybe a close-up view of a familar urban subject so it takes on a more abstract look. Images can be in colour or black and white. I look forward to seeing your entries.
In general contests, images consisting of multiple panels rarely achieve a high placing, but I think especially with an abstract theme, the subjct lends itself to a multi-shot presentation. Here we have a fantastic example of such work, with a subject as simple as a bench being "worked" to best advantge, to get a number of similar, but different, views that all provide interesting details within the lines of the bench and its shadow. The image works well in black and white, and has been precisely construted into the panels. Great work, well done on your top ten placing.
