Urban Snow

Oh, the inconvenience! Instead of just strolling in the city and browsing the shops, you have to cover up well, carry umbrellas, wear hoods and warm boots - and still get cold and wet. On top of it, it's slippery underfoot which needs your attention as well. This image sums up most that is to say about urban snow and that's why it is my winner. Congratulations.

The joys for motorists are even worse, esp. if there was much snow overnight. If the local council isn't well organised, nobody will be at work in time. This image shows the effort needed to keep the streets passible and therefore business and commerce, as well as schools and hospitals going. In countries with hard winters this can take up a lot of a town's budget.

DIY and all hands on deck. Neighbours in the suburbs need to work together to make their patch passable for motorists and pedestrians, as it's usually only the main roads that are cleared. first of all, though, the car needs to be cleared from the snow, before it can be started. Oh, the joys!

Not an easy job. Not everything can be done mechanically, so these poor souls have to brave the cold to clear the footpaths. Having a little break and a good chat helps with moral. At least they all seemed to be dressed sufficiently warm.

I'm sure that none of the ladies were out in this weather voluntarily but had to venture out for an important task. At least they look well prepared for these conditions. The motorists in this image have a difficult task too, as the roads can be very treacherous. Not much fun all around.
