Urban Spaces

March 2022

I am sure that most people have seen many photos of the Shard and other landmarks buildings, indeed there many entries in this competition featuring such buildings.

I never seen the Shard photiographed in this way and seems like it was real case of the photographer grabbing the moment.

Terrific and original photo, worthy of a top 10 placing.

Very different to many of the images in the competition.

I thought the compostion was excellent and created an engaging scene.

The stand out element to this photo was the control of the high dynamic range and processing which were both so well done.

This image transported me to a place that is so different to most cities in the world.

There is a lot happening and different elements to capture the attention of the viewer. I felt this was beneficial as it put the viewer into the scene.

It could be a street or a tavel photo but I felt it fitted the brief here very nicely too.

This is a complex and beautifully devised photograph of Milan.

The architecture and reflections combine superbly and create such an intriguing almost abstract photograph.

I think it is an image I have seen before, always admired and still stands out for me.

There were a number of similar scenes of steps or shot from above entered into the competition.

The composiiton, simplicity and lone figure are great but many images also included these elements. I felt that the lone boy kicking the ball transported the viewer into the scene I can almost feel the silence interrupted only by the ball being kicked against the wall when looking at this photo.

Beautiful image, worthy winner

The spaces amongst the buildings are the ones where the urban dweller gets to breath a little more easily. They can be parks large and small, squares, esplanades, wide roads and boulevards, or the open spaces for taking a rest and eating a sandwich that often get designed into modern urban developments.

A very simple image but one I enjoyed.

The single subject against an interesting background works well as a photograph.

I can feel the subject absorbed in his own world taking time out from the hustle and bustle of London

There were many very complex images entered into this competition. Sometime less is more and the simplicity works so well in this image.

It is also very clever with its use of shadow and colour.

I think this is the type of scene that almost everyone would just walk straight past so I think a lot of credit to the photographer for spotting such a great shot out of a seemingly mundane scene.

A wonderful image of the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia.

This is a remarkable location and understandably very popular with photographers. There are so many possibilities at this location but have never seen this composition before so this made the image stand out for me.

I have never visited Dubai but have enjoyed many wonderful photographs from there.

Most of the photographs of skyline are very striking and futuristic looking. This image feels so serene and has a very different feel.

The quietness of the reflections and boats in the foreground combine superbly with the striking skyline under a veil of mist.

Picking a winner in this competition was extremely difficult and my top 10 changed a lot but this one stood out for me and was ever present.

Quite unlike any of the other entries and not a familiar location to me. It is very intricate and interesting scene, reminding me of an Escher painting.

Congratulations, a worthy place in top 3

Maybe it is everything that is going on the world right now but this image really struck a chord with me.

A haunting scene that conveys a feeling of desperation.

A beautiful shot and worthy of a place in the top 3.

This is a photo where the title and back story really add to the viewing experience.

I liked the shapes and lines in the image a lot and this caused me to have a closer look. Then when I read the description it made me laugh, I can now imagine what the subject is thinking.

Brilliant and clever photo

This a fabulous perspective and it is a very well processed image., I particularly liked the choice of blacks.

I also though the symmetry and angle was very well done and I feel this is important for photographs relying on lines.

All of these elements make for a very striking image

2,388 Images entered

There were a number of cityscapes entered into this competition. This one really stood out for me.

The image has a since a mystery and has some superb repeating shapes

A very original take on the cityscape and worthy of a place in the top 10.

762 Photographers

In a competition with over 2,300 entries it is was difficult to find unique images and scenes. This shot certainly achieved this and made the viewer curious as to what the story behind it was.

Really cool stand out shot
