This is a fabulous image, capturing some key details about village life: the role of animals in daily work and life, the phone box for communications, the carefully-tended green spaces. But beyond that, it's a very original and striking composition, bringing together the unlikely combination of highland cow and red phone box. So that's why it was my choice for an eye-catching contest image.
Great image of childhood in a village setting: thank you. I love the way you've caught the figures in action, with their long shadows in the late afternoon sun. Nice balance in teh exposure, so that the figures are more than silhouettes. The village houses form a nice backdrop. So we've got a story here, some key characters and a hint of the village life of which they form part. It's full of energy!
A lovely, witty piece of composition. You must have had sharp eyes and quick reactions to capture the sheep in the right place at just the right moment. In terms of the contest brief, you capture a lot about village life here: not just the agricultural context, for example, but also the importance of transport links for the people in those houses that we can just see, beyond the bus stop. Thank you!
Thank you for submitting this beautiful image. It's a simple, classic composition that really works for me. The colours of the clothes catch the eye, as do the shining pots. I like the sense of movement from the three women, as they walk towards the village houses that we can just glimpse between the trees. In terms of the contest brief, you've brought together the key elements: interesting characters, a simple story and a sense of the part these characters play in village life.
I liked this image partly because of the striking composition, and partly because of the story it hinted at - which was out of the ordinary, compared to most of the entries in this contest. There is so much effort implied in the dark, pedalling figure. For me that captured something thought-provoking about this particular kind of village community.
I really like this enigmatic image: what's the young man talking about so intently, and what's the story with the apparently patient pony outside the phone box? The pony hints at a rural village context, while the houses are not the typical photogenic type, but the more ordinary kind. So this isn't a particularly well-kept or tourist-attracting village; it's one where day-to-day life goes on in its often mysterious ways. Great work, and good choice to have it in black and white, suiting the subject.

A village is a small rural community. It often meant a place where people depended on working on the land nearby. However, in recent times those links with the land have become weaker in many countries. In this contest I would like to see your images of present-day village life. Shots may include people and/or animals, but this is not essential. You can use the physical environment itself - streets, buildings, open spaces, tools and technologies - to capture the idea of village life. Use your imagination to find some fresh perspectives.

Lovely capture of a sociable village scene that can be witnessed all over the world, in different forms. I love the mix of moods, facial expressions and interactions among the friends. Having the name of the square in the frame gives a sense of the village context, as do the plain walls and windows in the background. Thank you!
This is a very beautiful image of a kind of village community, and landscape, that most of us will be unlikely to get the change to visit. You've captured the colours and the details really well, and have located these dwellings within their bare and tough context. There's a real sense of community here, in the arrangement of the yurts in the low sunlight.
Fabulous, vibrant scene: what a riot of colours and movements here. Then there's the detail to look at, suggesting the range of activities that women often undertake in rural village contexts. The eye is led to the foreground figures, but then further on, to the detail of movements and objects in the background. Thank you!
