There is a book called the Field of Lost Shoes that was made into a feature film a few years ago - set in the American Civil War - It alluded to a famous battle that afterwards when they gathered their dead an officer remarked on the lost shoes of youth that lay scattered over the battlefield lines - This is a very simple yet deeply compelling shot the really sums up the futility of war and is symbolic and very powerful as an image - it really captured the essence of the the competition Congratulations Tarquin Shaw-Young FEAA
