Where Walls Meet

This is a stunning conceptual capture - one of a kind in this contest. The underpass corner is depicted as the crossroads of how different lives can turn out to be. Two people separated only by two walls, and yet they are two worlds apart: one is still, one is in movement; one is hunched over, a hoodie over his head, the other is standing straight, power-walking in high heels towards the next achievement. Editing has been cleverly used to enhance the difference between what goes on on each side of the underpass: warm light on one side, black and white on the other. This image is the perfect representation of 'Where Walls Meet', and one that can leave us with much to think about and be grateful for. Well done.

Amongst the many black and white entries, this colourful capture immediately and pleasantly stood out. It's joyful and lighthearted, its bright colours a feast for the eye. There are a few details that make this image the successful capture that it is: the little roof's shadow that stretches to reach the corner of the building, the parked bike in the left corner, the curved curb, and the colour of the customer's tank top that matches the wall and the graffiti above. It's joyous, it's calm, it's summertime vibes. It's life in a city corner. Wonderful capture, well done!

Many walls meet in this beautiful abstract architectural image. The shot rotation makes the building look like a glass stairway to heaven, and I love it. It helps the viewer to think outside the box, to admire the shapes and textures without preconception - taking them in for what they are, not for what we know them to be. The colour toning is very successful. The high contrast creates great depth and enhances the reflection on the glass, which is very pleasing to the eye, as well as adding much interest to the dramatic sky above. A very suggestive photograph that is right on brief, different and extremely well technically executed. Well done!

**This contest is open to photographers ranked between 1 and 250 in this week’s Leaderboard.** This is probably an exploration of the humble corner, but maybe there are other ways in which walls meet? Do they meet cleanly and amicably, and are just built to be together, or is something a little more jarring going on? And what happens on the insides and outsides of corners? If we were naughty we might have been put in one, but it’s less obvious what to do with the outside of a corner, except maybe peer around it and look what’s round the other side.
