A ski slope with tiny figures skiing, and scattered randomly, is what attracted me to this shot. I love the sky which is blue with whispy clouds, making this image feel fresh, and clean. Zooming in to this image allows you to see the top of the slope, and the various speeds and styles of all the people skiing.
This images gives me a great feeling, as it shows kids playing together in a snowy garden, on sledges. What fun, and the photographer has taken the image low down to be at the same height has the child on their sledge just going down the small hill. Love the sunlight breaking through and the joy and excitement on the children's faces. Smashing shot.
Mysterious, captivating, intriguing,...are just a few of my thoughts when looking at this image. An ice cave, and a silhouetted figure with their ice pick, backlit. Great. An amazingly moody atmosphere. Not certain if the light was artificial and the climber was making a pose for the shot, but it really doesn't matter, as it works so well.
A wonderful shot of striking mountains, and again, having people showing the scale on the side of the snow covered mountain makes it work. Makes me wonder how people can be walking so high up. Great that this was captured at ISO 100 for quality, and like how powdery the snow looks thanks to the sunlight.
A great action shot, again, with a decently fast shutter to capture the moment of the jumping snowboarder without blur. I really appreciate the almost pure white surrounding as it makes you focus entirely on the snowboarder. Like the arm outstretched which is pointing at the same angle as the board.
A great freeze frame moment of an intense horse race where the horses and jockeys are tackling going around a bend in the course. I think the snow spraying everywhere and the jockey landing on the ground makes this shot work so well. So much detail your eye doesn't want to leave the image.
The dog's face and the expression being shown is absolutely everything in this shot. Sheer effort and determination, almost a crazed look. Again, with a 1/1000th shutter which freezes the moment perfectly. The skier in the same red colours is great, and the darkness of the trees in the distance helps lift the foreground action.
A lovely balanced composition in this image, and a great example of the rule of thirds. With great depth too, of the far distant mountains, and the sun-lit rocky peak in the mid-distance and skiers on the foreground. Lovely light additionally, and a surprise element of a person on the edge of the rock in the distance.

Shooting winter sports, which are typically those involving snow and ice, can be very exciting and produce wonderful shots, but don’t forget the fingerless gloves, and make sure your batteries don’t get so cold they stop working!
