There is something that really draws me towards this image. It's tonally very moody and mysterious and the effect the zooming lights make are simple, yet powerfully draw the viewers eye towards the centre of the frame. The outline shadow of the trees at the top of the picture offer an indication of what has been photographed.

An excellent example and great use of the Zoom Burst effect make for an deserved commended position. One small suggestion for improvement would be to remove the dust spots in the top left corner.

An excellent example of using the Zoom Burst effect to create stunning and compelling abstract art. Simple in colour but at the same time being highly complex in structure, this image keeps the eye wandering around the frame, looking at all the detail. As a small suggestion you could try keeping the bright, central focal point away from the exact centre of the frame. Using the classic 'rule of thirds' technique and positioning the bright spot slightly off centre would have strengthened this composition.

A powerful image using a motorized version of the Zoom Burst technique on multiple, stacked images. This technique creates very striking images that are technically challenging yet fulfilling to achieve, of which this is a fine example.

I love the addition of the foreground which has been illuminated with a torch or flash. As a small suggestion, using the track lines to create stronger leading lines would have made for a more powerful composition. Try shooting a little wider or stepping back to get more of the scene into the frame. Alternatively you could try composing this shot in portrait format.

The winning image of the Zoom Burst competition sums up everything that is important in using this photographic effect. The zoom effect should support the image's composition and not become the theme itself, and this winning photograph is an excellent example. Even without the zoom effect this image would be an excellent landscape shot of the Southern England 'Durdle Door' rock formation, displaying great composition, gorgeous sunrise light and colour. The addition of the Zoom effect raises the image's impact even further to become a beautiful piece of abstract landscape art that I would happily hang on my wall.

By combining longer shutter speeds with fast zooms, you can create dramatic effects from light trails. This is referred to as the zoom burst technique, and in this technical challenge we want to see your most creative examples of it. *Click on 'The brief in detail' tab for the full brief.*

This particular photograph really jumped out at me during the judging. It's not only a great example of the Zoom Burst technique, it also shows the photographer has a good understanding of what subject the technique would work with. Symmetry and composition are the leading themes through the image, supported by the intense colours of the zooming lights that work exceptionally well in centralising the viewer's eye onto the focal point.

I particularly adore the detail of the trees that create a secondary layer below the zooming lights. Well done, this is an excellent image the photographer should be proud of.

Beautiful composition, symmetry and tone have been used to create this well deserved second place. The addition of the zoom effect takes this already very strong image and integrates a secondary layer of focus and form that forces the eye of the viewer into the centre of the frame and holds it rigidly there.

Just the right level of zoom effect has been applied to support the image and lead the eye whilst retaining plenty of detail in the water and structure of the pier. An excellent image and one to be very proud of.

An image that just makes you wonder what's going on, who is the person on the street? Are they escaping from the vehicle that's bearing down on them? Are they running towards you, the viewer? The story is of course left to your own interpretation of this fantastic image. With excellent subject selection, great exposure and tonal range, this image is a fine example of the Zoom Burst technique, used to strengthen but not overpower the central theme of the image.

Personally I would have liked to have seen less of the wall on the right side and more of the light streaking on the left, which would have moved the focal point more off centre and strengthened the composition.

A fantastic image however and one the photographer should be very proud of.

An outstanding photograph of tonal simplicity and immense textural complexity. This is one of the images that really stood out whilst reviewing the competition entries and one that very much deserves third place. I adore the composition and colour and the use of the Zoom Burst effect to emphasize the one person in the lighter coloured jacket really increases the visual impact.

This is photography at its finest, seeing an everyday scene and turning it into a beautiful piece of visual art.

A great shot and a classic subject for Zoom Burst Photography. These fast moving cyclists don't however make the easiest subject to photograph with this technique and the photographer has made a good attempt at capturing them. There is good composition and colour throughout the frame. For me, the only things that lets the image down just slightly is the front cyclist's face isn't quite as sharp as it could have been.

A fine photo however and one that the photographer should be proud of.

I love the rainy and grainy effect of this image. It gives a surreal and artistic view to an everyday down-town scene. Good camera control and exposure is evident with detail throughout the frame and enough darks and lights to portray the scene in it's rainy state. The deep, warm colour saturation adds a contrast that is beautiful. Personally I feel the image would have been a little stronger if there was more of a subject matter in the foreground... perhaps a section showing more of the white lines painted on the road. Consider also a lower angle or including more of the parked car on the right side.

A powerful image and a great example of the Zoom Burst technique to focus the viewer's eye even more onto the already very strong focal point. Good colour and tonal range with highlights to almost white and darks to almost black giving great depth to the supporting background. Personally I would have preferred to have seen the composition more off centre, using the 'rule of thirds' technique to position the subject slightly more to the left and 'looking' into the frame. It can be challenging to achieve during shooting in combination with this zoom effect, however it's easy by cropping in the post-processing phase.

Every time I look at this image I can't help but feel as though I'm racing at high speed towards the futuristic city ahead, sitting on a space age buggy hovering just centimetres above the glowing reflective sand. A fine example of the Zoom Burst effect used to perfection... not itself being the subject matter but instead supporting and reinforcing the composition, adding to the story the photographer wants to tell us. An excellent image using a perfect subject matter, shot at just the right time of day to utilize the amazing array of colours and using the reflections on the water surface to give an extra dimension to the scene. Just perfect.

What an evocative scene, it really makes the viewer want to know more about what's going on and what the person in the foreground is going to do. The Zoom effect helps to focus the eye onto the subject matter.

Composition is good although exposure is a little bright and details are beginning to be lost in the brightest reflections in the water. Perhaps getting closer to the people and showing more detail could have strengthened the story some more.
