A Right Old Mess

April 2022

I liked this image, in particular the creative framing. By shooting low and wide you have managed to capture a few layers of "mess" which helped build this image. The chain link fence which leads your eye to the overgrown fern until you stop the derelict building.

This image made me laugh, cats love nothing more than new piles of rubbish to climb on and explore! I would have liked to see bit more depth and dimension with the lighting or the editing her to draw the eye to the cats more.

I really liked the tone of this images. there a plenty of good detail here and the exposure means we can really get a sense of the texture of what we are seeing, you can almost smell the rot and it works really well.

I didn't particularly enjoy the content of this image but it certainly made me stop and look! I like the way the focus falls on the subject, skewing the carcass just enough. On a second look I can see the feet and legs of the chickens just behind her. Great capture!

This is an interesting image, with lots going on. I like the use of the leading lines with the disused railway. It draws the eye to the back of the image and the busy market place. Lots of texture here too.

This is a sweet image and one many of us can relate to. The use of the soft light is really nice and works perfectly for this type of image. The cat looks happy, can't argue with that, can we!

I found this image really interesting, although its messy there are layers upon layers of really interesting elements. I would like to be able to spend time looking through these documents! Its nice clean capture and works really well, perhaps could be a postcard?

I love the tone, depth and dimension of this image. It tells a very interesting story. Among the mess are so many interesting items here with their own story. The editing works really well and helps draw the eye to the central focal point.

I really like the juxtaposition of this image, the crazy and messiness of the magazines with the glamour of the magazine front covers. Its beautifully framed and the colours work really well, picking out the warm tones in the image.

This is an interesting image, the lighting is superb. It's illuminates the subject just enough, whilst allowing enough light to fall on the background to show the interesting details. The tone of the whole image is very effective and draws the eye.

See more contest details

We’re celebrating disorder, untidiness, chaos and a notable lack of feng shui in this contest. Go looking for the house with the hoarder, the alley behind the shops, the hair that hasn’t been brushed, and the building development that REALLY shouldn’t have been given planning permission. Interpret the theme as you see fit, and go easy on the not on brief button - one person’s mess is another’s just-sorted-now-time-for-a-cup-of-tea.

I like this image, there are really nice colours and tones here. You could consider offering this as a digital background for other photographer to purchase! It framed well and nice and evenly exposed, enough to show the texture but not over expose the details.

I like the juxtaposition of this image, the toilet shows the messy element which is totally out of context to the beautiful, lush natural surroundings. The texture of this image works really well and I like the deep depth of field as it shows all the details.

I really like this images. Its framed really well, looking through the broken glass which leads your eye down the corridor and then up the stairs. The exposure works really well and helps show the depth and dimension of the image.
