Attention All: The brief emphasis is colour and lighting. The shells of many entries lacked colour, although the photography was good.

This photo met the brief perfectly. The colour, lighting, and setting are superb. The side lighting is perfect and aimed at the top end of the shell to reduce glare and enhance the translucent part of the shell. Well done!

The shell is in good condition and has some color, but the blue background and the flower petals make this photo striking. Using color to enhance color is a great way to improve a picture. Good lighting and reflection make the setting perfect. One f-stop to increase depth of field would improve sharpness at the tip of the shell and in the reflection, but this image deserves to be rewarded.

Various shades of color well lit and reflected earned this photo 3rd place. The lighting is even and the black background eliminates shadows. The vertical composition shows curving, concentric lines, symmetrical lines that are pleasing to the eye. The shell is unblemished. This is a perfect photo of a beautiful Cockle. Great shot!

See more contest details

This contest is for your colour photos of a single seashell, which allows us to appreciate the beauty of the seashell. You can show any type of seashell in any location, from a natural setting to a creative still-life composition, although it would be great to see some shells that are rare or images highlighting the shell's various details. Colour and lighting are the essential areas of emphasis. Only colour images please, and only a single seashell. I am looking forward to viewing your photos.
