We received a lot of urban images in this round, with architecture featuring heavily. You have to work hard to make such images your own and not rely on the design itself, and this image perfectly demonstrates that point. The photographer has found an intriguing aspect of the wider scene and composed it is such a way to control context - the most important aspect of abstract photography. Very well done!

We've seen many shots of this building in the Netherlands but this one stood out for it's great use of colour contrast. In the abstract sense this frame makes ideal use of all the key elements - shape, form and colour - to create an image which is both mind-bending and soothing in equal measure. Well done.
Repeating patterns work well as abstracts but when they are disrupted by an anomalous element they can really have impact. The blue glass creates a compositional full stop which gives the image direction. The processing and lighting is well matched too, creating a beautiful image worthy of hanging on a wall.
A pattern emerged from the entries to this round. Some images made use of strong colours, while others went to the other extreme and focussed on the interplay of shapes and form, using monochrome as a medium for this. In this shot the latter occurs to great effect. As with all good abstracts, we're not entirely sure what we're looking at, but we start to guess the more we look at it.
What a festival of colour! It's almost reminiscent of a Rothko painting and makes great use of the strong primary colours found in the architectural design. Once again this image demonstrates the importance of isolating the important areas of the frame to make a frame out of the larger scene. Great choice of composition and focal length.

Not all images need to be literal. For this round we want to see shots which capture intriguing views of familiar scenes, showing them in a new way. Think outside the box and use perspective, composition and exposure to find something original.
