The majority of the photographers who entered this contest chose water to create their abstract reflection images. So many were so similar and so many were worthy of commendation. Those who were not chosen by me need not feel their work was not good or appreciated. They were.! Please enter them again and again in upcoming contests.
I kept coming back to this colourful reflection in water. The maker captured and created a lovely composition featuring dynamic towers of wonderful shades of reds, greens, yellows and blues and rippled patterns which literally dance. This is a perfect example of using colour, light, shadow and form to convey a feeling of abstract wonder. But like me, (who uses a Sony mirrorless camera which sucks dust) we sometimes forget to clean up all dust spots. The one on the green section needs to disappear. Thanks for entering this photo and keep doing great abstract reflections!
The maker of this stunning image certainly knows how to best design a fascinating and captivating abstract reflection. This unusual urban abstract in Berlin's Spree River (perhaps one of the museum buildings on Museuminsel?) has the best of composition, form, color, texture and light to make a great work of art which I find completely new and refreshing.. It looks like a masterful painting rather than a conventional photograph. One can play, "It looks like..." for hours. I personally see five upside down men wearing blue coats and blue hats all standing on blue soapboxes energetically shaking, trying to "out- preach" each other. Thank you so much for your wonderful contribution to my contest and teaching us what a great abstract image should look like.
The rich colours, bold textures, patterns and a stunning abstract quality make this image look more like a masterful illustration or painting than a photograph. I'd love to know how it was made. I'm infatuated that it is no cliched reflection and is something I've never seen before. Thank you for entering this top 10 photo in my contest.
A lot of thought goes into the order, placement and balance between shapes, patterns, textures and colours when making a good abstract image - or not. A great image can be serendipity. I loved an image my boyfriend made by accident (I bumped his arm while he was photographing a stream at our local park). He thought I was crazy when I insisted he enter the photo into an abstract nature contest. He took second place!
So judging a 500 entry abstract reflection contest was a crazy difficult task. There were so many wonderful and gorgeous images. I wanted to award the top 10 ten times over. Well, they only allow one collection of top 10. But, please everyone, enter your images in other contests. So many images have merit!
The first place image which oozes originality appears to be a reflection in a city window or a wall. Oh, if these walls could talk! Stories, lives, experiences are reflected in this stunning urban landscape. It is a powerful contextualization of a city where the maker focuses his gaze on a place that normally would go unnoticed. The people look like ghosts framed by the weird angles of the buildings. The composition is just a wonderful mystery. The maker's other similar entries are also great, BTW and so different from all the other entries. I always say, "...show me something I haven't seen before and you, dear maker, did! Congratulations!
Indeed, the maker focused his gaze on the reflection of an apartment building on the Oslo waterfront and captured a masterpiece in a fraction of a second. I agree with the title of this stunning image. It is a tribute to the modernist architect Antoni Gaudi. One sees similar flamboyant curves and lines of some of Gaudi's buildings,. making the image seem in constant playful and frenzied movement. I don't know the colours of this water reflection but I feel that this monochromatic treatment works wonderfully well. Congratulations and thank you for sharing this top 10 image with us..

This image of bougainvillea reflected in water is not only gorgeous in form and colour but is also uniquely expressive. Fresh pink blossoms, green leaves and dark branches melt into each other in dreamy washes of colour and hazy drips and swirls. The resulting image is a breathtaking interplay of light and shadow which I love. Thanks and congratulations.

Please enter your photos showing any type of reflection that is abstract in some way, making it difficult to recognize. Photos must show only the reflection, not the subject being reflected. Reflections in water or other reflective surfaces can be intriguing and you can create lovely abstract photos by focusing on the reflection alone, showing things like textures, striking colours or patterns. I hope you have fun with this contest and show me your creativity.
