I really like this shot. I especially like the letterbox format because the deer are spaced so evenly and its a well balanced shot. Some are looking forward and some are not, and even though the stag with the biggest antlers is not facing the camera his antlers are standing out in the shot. The tufts of grass are beautifully spaced between the deer. I think its a really great image because of the spacing. Obviously its luck as to how the deer are sitting when you take the shot but a beautiful shot.
This picture could have been so much better if a little more care had been taken in the post processing. From what I can make out most of the birds are in focus but what the photographer has done is either given it too much HDR treatment or reduced the clarity and this has resulted in a hazy but not so sharp looking shot. Its been given a yellowish glow which has also contributed to the hazy un-sharp looking end product.
However I do like the shot so maybe have a go at re-editing this one and keep things sharp and less hazy. Then I think you'll be onto a winner.

Congratulations on the number two spot in this contest. I picked this because a night time shot is very rare and even more so in this quality. A 19 hour stint in a hide is commendable and so worth it. This image is taken with such skill, and the lighting is marvellous. The Lioness on the left is looking straight at you therefore engaging you, the viewer in the shot.

However if you're not a paying subscriber you can still purchase entries for £2 (GBP) per image.** Herds, packs, swarms... there are lots of names for animals in groups. Even as humans, we’re inclined to move about in, or between, groups. This is how we eat, socialise and (usually) work. Animals are stronger when they’re working as a team, and watching them do so can make for some truly compelling photos.

In photography odd numbers are the key to a successful shot. With these five beautiful elegant Giraffes its even better because they are all evenly spaced across the image. They are in their natural environment and the sky is perfectly exposed. This is definitely an image that needs to adorn a wall.
