Bicycles - No Cyclists (no sunsets/sunrises)

Thank you for entering this great photograph into my Bicycles contest. It is one of the few photos entered that were taken indoors. The composition is spectacular, dramatic even, as are the colours. The use of natural light, the contrasting shapes and textures add up to a distinctive image, and it deserves to be in my top five. Thank you so much for sharing it with us in this competition.

This is another photo with a strong graphic feel. The photographer has lined up the verticals and horizontals perfectly with the frame. The contrasting colours, too, are striking. And there, bottom right is our bicycle, resplendent in its fabulous setting, yet almost incidental. But that bicycle, although small in the frame, is subtly balanced by the drainpipe on the left running from top to bottom. A stunning photograph and thank you for entering it into this contest.

This is the sort of subject with the perfect backdrop that you have to stop and photograph. Clean, cool and uncluttered. I love the way the bike and the kinked line that runs through it are seemingly forced over to one side of the image. And this arrangement illustrates beautifully the impact that negative space has. I wish I had taken this photo - I would be so proud of it. Thank you for entering it into my Bicycles competition.

Pinks and greys, and a black bicycle. As with other images I have chosen for commendation in this contest, the photographer has made use of straight lines to accentuate the rings and the bike's wheels. Also, the use of negative space adds impact to the composition. It is uncluttered, clean and worthy of a place in my top five. Bicycles are a common sight in most countries, and are consequently a part of our environment. This consideration has therefore prompted me to take into account the backgrounds or settings in which the bicycles are situated. For me, this image is the winner. Modern bikes and modern architecture. I love the clutter-free setting, I love the graphic feel of the building's horizontal and vertical elements which emphasize beautifully the contrasting shape and colour of the wheels.
