A typical scene of what looks likely to be suburban residences, captured in a way that adds impact and interest to what could be considered a mundane subject. The long lens has nicely compressed the perspective, and the contrasting colours of the brickwork adds interest and also prevents one stack from blending into the ones behind. Well composed, with a good number of chimneys included along with some rooftops, set against an attractively coloured but non-overwhelming sky. Great image, well done on your top ten placing.
This image was a late entry into my top ten, but one I like more the more I look. The sky is dramatic without looking overdone, and is bright enough to allow the numerous spindly chimneys to stand out as silhouettes. I think the decision to present the image as black and white was the wisest one, as it gives a certain simplicity and allows the viewer to focus on the shapes without the distraction of colour. Congratulations on your third place finish.
I love this jumble of chimneys, effectlvely captured with a longer lens that compresses the perspsctive to accentuate the effect of the densly packed mass. The mainly light colour of the chimney pots allows them to stand out from the darker brickwork. None stand out as the main focus, but that does not matter with this type of shot, as it is all about the repetition and numbers rather than one specific focus. Congratulations on your second place finish.
Lovely tones and gentle harmonious colours make for a fabulous image. Zooming in close makes these attractively shaped chimney pots the subject, allowing the viewer a glimpse of the little architectural details not usually visible from street level. The wide aperture has nicely blurred the structures in the background, still retaining context but allowing the chimney pots to stand out. Great image, well done on your top ten placing.
The warm colours, and beautiful light and tones drew me to this image, and it was soon firmly in top spot. These unusual chimneys are clearly the subject of the photo, with areas of the attractive tile roof and upper walls included to give context. Composition works well, with the three main chimneys well spaced to be pleasing on the eye. Sometimes a featureless clear blue sky can appear a litte dull, but here it prvides the perfect backdrop as it allows the architecture to totally dominate with no distractions. Congratulations on your winning image.

In this contest I would like to see your photos of chimneys. There can be one or more chimneys of any type and in any location. You could show anything from a small chimney on the roof of a house to large industrial chimneys. Please avoid entering photos of a general urban scene that just happens to have a chimney somewhere in it; the chimneys must be a key feature of the photo. Entries can be in colour or black and white. I look forward to seeing your images.
