Great contest!

There were many entries showing homeless and unhappy people but many of them failed to show any visual reference to the Christmas period.

Not so with this image though, an obviously miserable man decked out in full-on tacky seasonal clothing. Christmas long ago lost any religious meaning for most people and is now a prolonged exercise in commercialism and money making in which we are all pressurized into embracing.

The man’s expression says it all …… bah humbug !!

What a beautiful, sad and quite haunting photograph this is.

There were many entries dealing with the impact of COVID on our Christmas celebrations but this, in my opinion, is the most eloquent of them all.

For me the decorated face mask is a sign of hope through adversity but the wistful expression on the little girl’s face says it all. A longing for better times and a return, if ever, to normality.

Congratulations on first place and a Happy Christmas and Peaceful New Year to you.

A powerful image is this, a serious and thoughtful Santa and so very opposite to the jolly red cheeked smiling Santa which we are all brought up to know and love. Even the colour palette is muted to add to the sombre mood.

As the image title says, very many people find Christmas to be a difficult time of the year for one reason or another.

This image admirably illustrates that rather sad truth.

Well done on your top ten placing.

Oh but I love this image ….. it’s so dammed clever on so many different levels.

A great play on the “snow angel” idea but this time with a screaming baby in full happy Xmas attire. Someone should tell the poor little fellow that Xmas is indeed a special time for all little children.

Just brilliant ……. And a well deserved top ten placing.

Happy Xmas 🎅

You forgot the cooking of the Turkey, two hours of washing up, clearing away the discarded Xmas wrapping paper and vacuuming up all the stray tinsel.

Have a restful Xmas :)

I would like to see your photographs that portray a darker or unhappy side of Christmas. Instead of merry lights, twinkling Christmas trees and happy children, I want to see truly awful socks and woolly jumpers, overt commercialism and lonely people etc. Be brave, be creative and show me that Christmas is not always a fun time of year. Colour, monochrome and composite entries are all acceptable. I look forward to seeing your alternative views of Christmas-time.

What a clever play on the sad state of affairs brought about by the global COVID situation.

The infant Jesus cradled not in a manger but in a face-mask with the twinkling tree lights behind.

“Away in a face mask No crib for a bed The little Lord Jesus Laid down His sweet head.

The stars in the bright sky Looked down where He lay The little Lord Jesus No covid today”

A great idea and a very clever image.

Happy Xmas!!
