A fabulous image full of mystery with the misty hills behind and the reflections of the ruined castle in the Loch creating a beautiful image and perfect centred horizon. The muted tones could have caused it to vanish in the vast number of great images I had to judge but the mysterious toning really stood out well done

Strong composition is essential for most photography, and when played well one of the strongest and most intentional compositions is the dead-centre horizon. It doesn’t always work, depending as it does upon what’s above and below the horizon, and both halves of the image need to be well weighted in relation to each other. This is another contest is our ‘Composition…’ series where we’re exploring a variety of common compositional approaches.
