Thank you for your entry into my courtyard contest. Although we can't see the lower level of this courtyard in this image, it is clear that that it is not only an interesting shape but undoubtedly old and probably filled with colourful potted plants as seen here, up the walls and in the window boxes. The composition is eye catching with good control of the light and tonal contrasts, and I like that the rest is left up to the viewers imagination. Very well done on your top ten placement!
Thank you for entering this wonderful example of a Stately home courtyard. Your framing and perspective are spot on with plenty of room for the scene to 'breathe' within your composition. The figures add a sense of scale highlighting the imposing facade of the tower and lovely formal courtyard. Congratulations on your top ten placement!
Thank you for entering this great image in the Courtyard contest and congratulations on your top ten placement. For me, this image has instant appeal on many levels, from the worn textures and ochre tones of the old walls to the candid capturing of the figurers frequenting the cafe. There is so much to see and enjoy in this corner scene, and I could certainly look forward to a morning coffee in this courtyard! Well done!
Thank you very much for your entry into my Courtyard contest. Seeing the little girl moving through the courtyard is a wonderfully decisive moment never to be captured quite the same again. It's not easy to capture movement in candid images when your subject is so near and active! You did a great job! Well done!
Thank you for entering your courtyard image into my contest and congratulations on your well deserved top ten place. I really like the stillness of this courtyard dimly illuminated by the solitary lamp, and you've captured the mood and composition brilliantly. The human touch of the washing on the line, bike parked up and the paper on the bench, add a sense of day to day reality to this charming residential courtyard. Well done!
Many congratulations on your well deserved 1st place in the Courtyard Contest! I would also like to thank everyone who entered, and add that competition was stiff for the top slots with many attractive and interesting courtyards which had been very well captured - so well done to all in the top ten and commended groups. There were a good number of entries such as entrances in which the courtyard couldn't be seen, formal gardens and alleyways, and therefore, in the interest to fairness I could not rate these highly. From the start I was enchanted by this eye catching image. Seen from the inside, but with no loss of detail and texture in the shadows, the viewer's gaze is immediately drawn to the brighter outdoors and the complimentary red and green hues of the foliage. Framed by the lovely, old arched windows, and with your photographer's eye for symmetry and compositional balance, this is a charming winning image-well done!

This image immediately caught my eye and deserves it's top ten place. I really enjoy the quirky setting and the tonal contrasts between the warm terrazzo tones and the cool white table setting. Looking down like this I get a sense of being Alice in Wonderland about to fall down and join the Mad Hatter for tea! A fun image, well seen and captured and thank you for entering the contest.

In this contest I would like to see your photos of beautiful courtyards. A courtyard is an outside area open to the sky that is totally or mainly surrounded by a building. Whether a small, intimate city home courtyard or one gracing a grand mansion, I would like to see your best images of these outdoor spaces. Please only enter photographs that clearly show courtyards and at least part of the buildings that frame them, not walled gardens, walkways or carparks etc. as these will be excluded from my judging. I hope you enjoy this contest.

Thank you for entering this lovely image in the Courtyard contest. If the buildings are white in real life then perhaps it would be worth adjusting the white balance to reflect that as they have a distinct pink tone to them, unless of course they actually are pink! You've composed and framed this attractive, leafy scene beautifully-well done and congratulations on your commendation.
Thank you very much for entering this fascinating courtyard image into the contest, there was nothing else like it entered. You went to great lengths to compliment the sweeping curves of this 1960s courtyard by being very precise with your composition and vertical lines, using the pillars on both sides to frame the scene with great effect, and with Eros the Sun God gleaming on his column in the centre. This striking image definitely deserves it's top ten place. Congratulations!
Thank you very much for entering the Courtyards contest. For me, what makes this image is the row of children's clothes and different coloured props for the washing lines! This courtyard scene has a true sense of normal everyday life with no frills attached, and you've also managed to find strong compositional lines within it-well done!
Thank you very much for entering this lovely image into the Courtyards contest. I don't know whether it was good fortune or planned that the elegant figure was in the right place at the right time but she really adds to the story, and to the overall symmetry, of this enchanting courtyard image-well done.
This is not only a very carefully composed image, but also with perfect perspective with every vertical as it should be-vertical! You've even paid attention to getting the whole of the cross on the roof visible through the archway. There is some magenta chromatic aberration top right which could be a little distracting and which, if you agree, I'm sure could be easily removed in post production. Well done and thank you very much for entering this into the Courtyards contest.
