Dappled Light

Dappled light is created when sunlight is filtered through tree leaves or other high grid type filters. Typically dappled light produces a pattern of small patches of light and shade. Sometimes it’s also called dappled shade. It can be a photographer's worst enemy or best friend, depending on the subject and purpose. Gardens, forests floors, treed streets and artistic nudes are a few examples of where you might use this type of lighting to your advantage.
