This photograph shows great technique, flawless composition. It could not be any better and a fantastic eye for detail. The horizon line is millimeter straight along the frame, the high walls perfectly balance against the isolated figure and the sea. The black and white adds to the drama and gives a real sense of foreboding with the dark clouds coming in. This is a wonderful photograph. It would look great in a frame in a gallery. Great image. Well done.
This image stood out because it is so different to any other entry. The framing of the statue against the gold framed painting depicting dark clouds is so clever. The tight crop works well so we don't get any distractions. The naked body and pose suggests that the woman could be stepping into the picture. This is fun, it's cheeky and works perfectly and is an interesting take on the brief. Why get wet taking pictures of dark clouds when you can be dry in a museum. Inventive. Well done. It does make me smile.
This is a remarkable photograph. Every element fits perfectly together. The elevated camera position, each section in a balanced third. The sea, the first layer of dark clouds and break of light then at the top a return to the wonderful deep blues of the overall scene. The way the boat is illuminated and its wake with light blue highlight is fantastic as is the thin strip of lighter blue where the boat sits within the frame. The exposure is spot on even in the corners. This is a wonderfully captured image and perfectly controlled. I can't see how it could be improved. A worthy winner. Well done.

**This contest is open to photographers ranked between 1 and 250 in this week’s Leaderboard.** Moody skies and shaded landscapes here, as we give some attention to less favourable weather. Dark clouds can be super-atmospheric, and turn the sky into a real feature of your images. In portrait photography they can be a great setting for some more edgy portraiture, or perhaps a perfect mirror for your subject’s mood.
