Congratulations on receiving first place in this ‘doors’ contest. The uniqueness of this artistic door on the suburban brick facade, really is captivating and strikingly different. The choice to have the person in this pose as presented, adds to the dynamic feature of the door, with his hand on the door handle, back to the camera in navy clothes, creating the realism and focus on the door rather than just another door…this is a standout vault door to a fault!. The overall composition of this photo is well presented and shows artistic merit….doesn’t come close to any other featured doors. Well captured with just the right lighting. Thank you for your entry. Congrats!
“Hello Yellow!” Or “Go for Gold and be Bold!” are the phrases I think of, when I see this door. Thank you for presenting your work and meeting the brief. This competition was a fiercely hard one to choose but the overall composition of this photograph truly captured the brief. The more you focus on the door, the more detail you find. From the contrasting couple of yellow doors against the arching overhead feature of black and white striped arch, to the delicate detail within the door itself. The clever slightly shadowy glimpses to the fine hole details and door knockers are what makes this pic a great capture. This one is stunning! Thank you for this piece and congrats for being included in the top ten!

Congratulations on being awarded in the top ten ranking. I was so intrigued by the overall composition and kept coming back to this one, a number of times. Each time seeing something new to pick out. The neutral rustic stone walls framed the door well and the colourful palate of the door itself, even included a artistic painting of a blue bike as well as flowers. Even if this red bike was deliberately positioned for this shot, I still love the painted blue bike and every carefully constructed detail positioned. The emphasis was totally on the door itself. Thanks…we’ll done!
What a cute pair of doors these are! The striking colours, different sizes and the matching detail of white arches over the doors, made the viewer drawn in. The precise set up of the doors, with just enough bricks and windows surrounding these doors, added precise focus. It clearly met the brief, by combining the focus of the doors, framing for the focal point and the lighting is spot on. The narrative to this photo created the viewer to want to ask questions becoming a visual story of its own. Why is there such a difference in size? How short would you be for #9 to not bend over and not smack their head? Clever composition, sharp focus and deliberate contrast captivated me and I am sure others were too…well done!
Well done! Thank you for your clever capture of this colourful row of beach hut doors. In this contest there were some similar beach huts entered but this one kept me addressing my brief, by focussing on the doors themselves. The capture kept the focal point of interest here. As your eye delves towards the distance, the addition of a person in a chair reading, doesn’t take away the focus of the colourful doors however adds some interest in the overall composition. It actually creates a complimentary piece of interest almost by chance, further making your eyes see the similarities and differences in these striking doors. The contrast in colour and sharp focus are on point. Thanks….a well captured scene to be congratulated!
Wow! Red is this door really red! Striking! Like a traffic sign, ‘STOP!’ Against the backdrop of a pristine white wall to the trellis of green and lilac artistically painted, what a wonderful frame for this bold bright cherry red door, to standout! The little iron additions on the door itself too have become a feature which actually makes the door itself the capture. Well composed and a welcome to comment on this photograph. The appreciation of this capture makes me feel happy to view the soft hues against the bold statement red piece. The whole composition of this photograph creates in the mind of the viewer a story…one of awesomeness and intrigue to what’s behind it. Congrats and meeting included the brief well and stunning!
One word here, RED! The choice to select particular features on the door is deliberate and perfect! Studded metallic features simply stood out by this deliberate zoom in. As a result the metallic door handle too showed the intricate engraving and stunning detail. What a wonderful composition and decision it was, to emphasise the brief in a way which clearly ‘states’ the door! Through a deliberate choice, thinking outside the square and perfect lighting, this wooden red door and its finer details fitted the brief. Love the capture, I am sure we will be seeing its appearance again on another contest soon. Congratulations, stunning!
Congratulations on being in the top ten. What a deliberate strong engagement the audience have with this door. The striking centred position, bright aqua tones and black features on the door itself, create a piece of art to our optic nerve! The lighting is spot on, focus perfect and the allowance of just enough background features, assist in deliberately maintaining the focus of the door. With just enough allowance of the greenery within the shot, the aqua door is the clear feature here. Although it is not actually a door that opens, it ‘still’ meets the brief. The clever positioning and appearance of the door itself are a stand alone and cool image. Well done!

This contest is for your photos that have doors as the main subject and focus of the image. Other elements surrounding the doors can be included but the doors should dominate the image. This allows scope and imagination to highlight interesting doors from all over the world. Photos can be in black and white or colour. I am looking forward to your entries.

Thank you and Congratulations! What a power statement these doors make! Bold, distinguished and historic in appearance. The sharp focus and teal colour mixed with rusty tones of the ageing process showed its tired, weathered and nostalgic…a piece of history over time. Rather than distracting the doors it actually kept me focussed on the inclusion by drawing a deliberate focus to the viewer. Within the frame, the ornate features were enhanced by the lighting, framing and clarity. Well done….we adore these doors!
