Thanks to everyone who entered this contest. I loved seeing all of the fire escapes, from the old and dilapidated to the ultra-modern. The winning photo is this beautiful old building with an attached metal fire escape. The fire escape appears to be well maintained. and in good working order. This photo is loaded with many small details that add visual interest and vie for our attention. I like the interior lights the which hint at ongoing work inside the building. I also like the play of light and shadow on the exterior of the tall wall. But what really makes this photo stand out is the camera angle used which, keeps the focus on the fire escape and not on the building itself. Congratulations on capturing this shot and earning first place..
Thank you for your entry. This photograph is a lovely study in contrasts. I like the mix of straight lines and sharp angles with the curves of the spiral fire escape. The contrast of blue and gold on the fire escape pops nicely against the white walls and balconies. Somehow, all of these opposites come together in perfect harmony in this photo.
Thank you for entering this close-up photo of a fire escape. You can almost feel the texture of the paint and smell the rust on the old metal. This unique point of view really captures just how clunky old metal fire escapes can be. One can only hope that never needs to be used. Especially with the blue bin partially blocking the stairs, which could earn the building owner a hefty fine.

Please enter your best photographs of a fire escape attached to a building. Designed for its functionality, the external iron stairway is considered a source of beauty by some and an eyesore by others. Although an iron stairway is the most common, you may enter photos of any type of fire escape attached to a building including chain or rope ladders, a chute (similar to the slides used to escape airplanes) or an enclosed fire and smoke-proof stairway. Please do not enter photos of ladders or other devices that are not attached to a building.
