This image was a late entry into my top ten, but one I like more the longer I look. An image that is primarily about colour, the close-in view gives an abstract feel to the shot. The off-vertical capture adds to the abstract, and gives a certain dynamic too. Whilst the colours are bold and vivid, they look to be as found on a bright sunny day, rather than being over-saturated in image editing. Great image, well done on your top ten placing.
A great image of an interesting building, which takes the features of a gabled roof to a whole new extreme! Compisition is simple but effective. The black and red of the building are a stark contrast to the white of the snow and the grey sky, which adds to the success of the shot. Beautifully natural with no harsh editing effects. Congratulations on your third place finish.
This is a striking black and white image, with some superb tones and contrasts such that despite the absence of colour, somehow remains a vibrant image. I love the composition, with the larger hut in the foreground on the right balanced by the rocky formations atop the hillside on the left. Some lovely textural detail, especially in the wood of the buildings and the grasses. Congratulations on your second place finish.
Some images work well due to their simplicity and having key point of focus. Here however, a shot of a 'busy' scene is equally successful. I love the way my eye scoots around the frame, fleetingly settling on numerous areas of the shot, which for me makes exciting viewing. There is so much detail for the eye to explore. There is a feeling of naturalness in the scene too, and despite the inclusion of the bold red and golden buildings, we get a real sense of the chill of a winter's day. Congratulations on your winning image.

In this contest I would like to see your photos of the gable end of buildings. The gable end is the triangular shaped end wall of a building, topped by the end of a pitched roof. The gable end can be on any type of building, of any age. Please ensure the gable end is the main focus of your photo. Images can be in colour or black and white. I look forward to your entries.
