I was hoping to see shots of this nature within this competition...a gargoyle looking out over all it surveys! I love the composition of this shot and the cool muted colours which all blend together and work perfectly! I also like the gentle vignetting and the fact you haven't over-processed the sky. Out of all the shots of this genre, this has to be my favourite. I like it very much. And it fits the brief perfectly. Well done, and many thanks for entering.

An image that I think has been processed rather well. I love the close-up detail that has been captured here and the fact that you have used a low F number to blur the background and focus on the detail of the subject. I also detect some subtle vignetting that also works very well. Very nice and many thanks for entering.

The sort of close-up detail that so many of us are likely to miss when wandering around gardens, cemeteries or wherever else these demons are lurking. I like the processing you have employed here with the blurred edges helping to maintain the focus on the facial features. A nice capture and many thanks for entering.

This image caught my eye immediately. I like the fact you have chosen to effectively cut the Gargoyle's face in half, utilised some subtle vignetting and brought out that all-important detail which gives the viewer a firm idea as to the texture of the subject. I think the low F-number works really well, with the focus on the facial features. Very nice and many thanks for entering!
This image belongs on a horror movie poster, which is a compliment of course! I very much like the cool green tones here with the surrounding shadows and high contrast which bring out the lighter tones around the facial features and upper body of the gargoyle, all coming together to bring a touch of total menace to the whole image. I love it and many thanks for entering.

Gargoyles are decorative waterspouts that help to preserve stonework by diverting the flow of rainwater away from buildings through a spout most commonly located via the mouth. Grotesques, whilst similar in appearance, differ from gargoyles in one important aspect - they do not act as waterspouts and mainly serve more decorative purposes. Both these sculptural creatures or beings appear most commonly on religious structures, but can show up on many other types of building. Entries may focus on the detail of a gargoyle or grotesque or may include some of the wider scenery within which either is located. Just make sure the gargoyle or grotesque is the main subject or focus of your image. Entries can be in black and white or colour and no composite images please.
