Thank you for submitting this fabulous photo in my contest. It caught my attention from the first moment I saw it. The image fits the brief perfectly with the series of volcanoes evolving into the distance. The early morning light plays beautifully off the ridges and valleys and the mist adds another element of interest. As the eye is drawn into the photo you discover the buildings in the middle left which help establish a sense of scale. The photo is completed with an interesting, golden light in the sky.
A very dramatic and intriguing image! I am captured by the scale of this mud explosion and your perfect timing as the bubble on the left disintegrates and the larger one on the right is closely following. The photo is well cropped to remove, as much as possible of what looks like a boring sky and lacklustre foreground and the focus is on the drama in the middle. The steam from the bubbles and rising out of the pool adds interest and the blurred background removes any unnecessary distractions. Well composed and executed.
I am totally intrigued by this image. I love the subject, the colours, the long exposure creating the movement in the geyser, and the light. The photo however, leaves me with one question - I would like a sense of scale - is it one meter or twenty meters high? A wider view ( landscape rather than portrait) ,may have achieved this. Overall a very dramatic and well compose image.

Enter your photos of volcanoes whether active, dormant or extinct; lava flows, hot springs, geysers, hot mud pools, or any other evidence of geothermal activity, past or present. Colour or black and white are fine. Keep in mind that I am judging the photographs so that while the subject is relevant, the emphasis is on clarity, composition and lighting.

So much to like in this image. Firstly you have achieved a perfect exposure for a large depth of field and although the point of interest is in the colourful terraces, the snowcapped mountains in the distance, the eroded hills on the right and an interesting sky all help to complete the image. Fantastic clarity, composition, colours and texture.
