This was a very hard contest to judge, as the quality and artistic eye behind some of the submissions was truly astounding. Every image submitted fit the context of the contest. However, this image in particular is quite breathtaking. Not only is there a great clarity of focus and depth of field, but it also tells a story. There is so much more to the concept of leading lines than just incorporating them into a photograph. It is very easy to use leading lines, but using this facet of composition properly can be challenging. The image must have an interesting focal point that the viewer's attention is being drawn to, and there should really be a purpose to the connections you are creating. "Leading Light", is a beautiful image, with great textures, good clarity, spot on composition in reference to the rule of thirds, and an exemplary display of the power of leading lines in a photograph.
There are certainly a lot of things to love about this photograph. The slow shutter speed gives that motion blur effect, sort of ghosting out the main subjects, while there is also a good bit of symmetry. The orientation of the leading lines was a good choice as well. Starting from the corners of the image is sort of a staple of the proper use of leading lines in this type of composition, and a great way to add depth to a shot. The viewer's eye is pulled inward, where the shot is topped off with some interesting background elements. All in all this is a beautiful image, and who doesn't love a good use of monochrome? Very nice photograph!

There is a very good reason why this image is deserving of a spot in the top 10, and quite frankly its symmetry. The degree of symmetry attained in this capture is not easy to accomplish. Additionally, there is a great use of leading lines. Nothing is arbitrary, and the viewer's attention is drawn to an interesting focal point. Overall, this is a well-executed shot, and very pleasing to the eye.

I found the use of leading lines in this photograph to be quite unique. The fence that the subject is perched on serves as a great way to sort of pull the viewer's eye throughout the image. However, the more shallow depth of field really accentuates the subject. The ambient lighting is quite elegant, giving the entire image a softer quality, while still preserving a good amount of detail on the Jackdaw. While most of the other submissions were of landscapes and architecture, this capture focuses on a single subject, while still managing to fit the contest brief. Last point of mention is the contrast of the darker grey tones on the Jackdaw, and the green hues of the background. Overall, a good display of compositional elements, and technical prowess.

For this contest, I would like to see your best photos utilising leading lines in your composition. Leading lines are a great photographic tool, and can be a crucial aspect of composition. They serve to guide the viewers attention to your intended focal point, and can really help add depth and character to an image. Entries may be in colour or monochrome, and of any subject matter.
There are definitely a lot of interesting elements going on in this capture. First off, I love the symmetry. My eyes are drawn inward toward the background, where there are some amazing details and textures. I also love the lighting. It really helps to set the tone, and give the viewer a feel for what it would be like to be standing at the top of those steps. A very well executed and composed capture, with a great incorporation of the contest brief.
