What a fabulous image, full of history and tradition. Spend any time in Africa and you quickly understand the importance of cattle and the pride of the communities that look after them. You have captured the pride of the owner and the status that this animal gives him. I love the colours and the overall muted and pastel palette. The fire with smoke adds interest in the bottom right and balances the image. The beautiful sky adds interest and gives a sense of the vastness of the surrounding landscape. Thank you for entering and congratulations on your top ten place.

I really like the subtle colour palette of this image that gives a great sense of history and heritage. The composite of the two images had been done very skilfully to make a harmonious image that is well balanced. The background although muted still has lots of detail, but allows the figure to stand out. I would love to see this as a square image with a tight crop on the righthand side taken right up to the side of the head as for me the background on the right is slightly distracting. Thank you very much for entering my competition.
What I really like about this image is the way that the curve of the crane perfectly frames the ships in the harbour beyond. The black and white treatment is very effective and helps gives the sense of history and heritage. The areas of sky and sea stop the image being too busy, and I love the asymmetric feel. Thank you for entering and well done on your top ten place.

I would love to see your photos of local heritage that makes a place special. Local heritage helps to make places special, often the reason that towns, villages and cities came into being. This could be a particular industry, manufacturing, production of a particular crop or a landmark. These might be something you have seen on your travels, or local to you. Images can be in colour or black and white. I look forward to seeing your entries.

It’s the balance and symmetry of the image which makes it so successful. The detail is stunning and the composition gives a sense of the vastness of the space. The vaulted roof is particularly lovely with the delicate contrasting decoration which has very clear detail. In my view the water mark spoils the overall effect and stops this being a top ten image.
