Macro Mini Beasts (in colour)

What I love about this image is that it is precise and to the point. The Butterfly is clear and sharp but its not been overly edited as the blades of grass it is on are still sharp but there is no clutter in the background. Its wonderful and a nature and macro shot at its best. Well done for getting in the top ten. There have been a lot of amazing images in the contest so it has been a very difficult job gathering my top ten.

Out of so many great shots entered I have chosen this on the brilliance of capturing this butterfly in flight. I have recently tried to capture some in flight and its very difficult to do. The proboscis and the head and wings are in focus. Its the only shot I've seen that has managed to do this. I have to say I have been very impressed with the submissions in this contest and it has made my judging job very difficult, which is a good thing! Congratulations on the number 1 image.

What a stunning image this is. I love the clarity and colours in this. The colours are bright and cheery and I love Hover flies, they are so very curious and seem friendly little bugs. I must admit I have a soft spot for them. Seeing them captured in such fabulous detail is so very pleasing. Thank you for entering this contest.

Congratulations on getting into the top ten. I love the fact that the beetle is pin sharp and the lovely curve of the leaf. Wonderfully on brief and clutter free. The fact that the background colour is shades of green helps the eye focus on the beautiful beetle. Seeing bugs so close up shows how beautiful they are. Your image just proves it.
