Congratulations on 6th place! I think the light is fantastic and the lines are crisp thanks to that 2.8 aperture plus a higher ISO. Your subject appears calm and unaware of your presence. I think it's a beautiful scene that would make a lovely print.

Congratulations on 1st place! I really love this image and the sense of movement. For such a slow shutter speed, the women in the left of the frame came out nice and sharp, which contrasts beautifully with the dreamy blur on the bugs. This would make a great print.

Congratulations on getting into the top 10! I love the woman's facial expression and how excited she seems about spotting some impressive seafood. You've captured her personality well. Well done on the fact that it was a stranger who you captured candidly as well.

Congratulations on making it into the top 10! What a dignified old chap you've captured. The choice of monochrome works well. I particularly like how there's nothing in the scene that allows me to identify when this was taken, so it feels timeless.

Congratulations on getting commended! I like how this shot looks almost like a medieval market scene. It's not just the clothes that make me say that but also the lighting, which makes it look rather like an old painting. Cheers!

Congratulations on 5th place! I wanted to include a wider market scene in the top 10 and this was my favourite of the lot. I can see a figure of 8 pattern with the people at the top and bottom forming curves. Great shot.

Congratulations on 3rd place! What a beautiful face. I love the colours and composition here as well as the natural facial expression. She looks so chilled and comfortable with you being there. Madagascar is somewhere I'm keen to visit and shoot, perhaps next year.

Congratulations on 7th place! The lady has a very kind face and smile. It's a well-balanced scene overall. Hanoi is a great city for street photography – this brings back good memories of when I was there shooting (I'd recommend being careful about the more unscrupulous fruit & veg sellers who stalk those streets!).

Congratulations on 8th place! What a pair of faces you've captured.. It's a natural moment and you seem to have made them feel at ease around you. The bright yellow and dark green make the subjects pop from the scene. Feel free to reach out on IG and tell me the story behind this image.

Congratulations on getting commended! I love how natural this shot feels. You've handled the low light very well, and the fishmonger looks like he truly loves his job and interacting with his customers. I wonder whether you approached him after to show him the picture!

Congratulations on getting commended! I really like the composition and light of this scene. The old lady doesn't look like she knows what to make of you and your big camera. A perfect shutter speed for the scene has ensured a beautifullly crisp image.

Congratulations on 2nd place! It's an amazing portrait with perfectly handled natural light, so well-deserved. I also shoot with a 5D Mark IV and frequently use ISO 3200 in low-light situations – it handles them so well. Shoot me a message on IG and tell me the story behind this shot! Cheers.

Congratulations on 4th place! I can almost hear the phones ringing and the buzz of chatter in the air. It's a great candid scene in a part of the market that not many entries in this contest focused on. Nicely done.

Congratulations on getting commended! I really like the man's facial expression, and that expression combined with the eyeless pig head gives the scene a comedically macabre feel. I think he looks a bit like Mr Bean's cousin.. I went to Oxford Brookes so i am familiar with the Covered Market – great place!

Congratulations on getting commended! I absolutely adore Taiwanese night markets so I instantly fell for this shot (I lived in Taiwan for 2.5 years and have travelled almost everywhere on the main island as well as all the outlying islands). Love the monochrome and super dark contrast. Cool pic!

As a way to explore the different cultures of the world, markets are a great place to start. At stall after stall, heaped on tables, shelves and floors, you get an introduction to a culture’s cuisine, fashion, home furnishings, and more. You see the market’s visitors doing their shopping, mingling, living their lives, and it’s a place where the photographer can find images everywhere they look.
