I love the painterly quality to this frame. As you can imagine, sailboats have been a big feature in this contest, especially lone ones on the sea. I wanted to give this one special mention because it was very close to making it to the top ten and if I could have made a top 5 it would have definitely made the cut. It can be so difficult when there are so many images of such great quality.
I love the colours in this image, from the pale sands the muted blues and a warm feel. The clouds formations are gorgeous, and really complement the sea and the boat. I like where you've positioned the boat and how the sails seem to match the colour of the clouds.
Beautifully seen, captured and processed, thank you so much for sharing.
This is a creative ICM image that fulfils the brief in a stylish manner.
I find that ICM can be a little hit and miss, but I love the panning technique you've used here. There is enough of the framework of both the sea and the distant headland to make the image work. The distinction between the blue of the water and pinks of the sunset really works well and that bright sun pulls in the eye.
Nicely seen, captured and processed, thanks for sharing.
I absolutely love this monochrome image. I think it meets the brief and demonstrates you have an eye for a composition.
I think this image might not have worked so well if you'd left it in colour. The mono conversion strips the image back to its basic elements. The light rippling across the water and the low cloud consuming any landscape in the distance.
This image is testament to the best camera being the one you have on you and speaks to the quality of phone cameras these days.
Nicely seen, captured and processed, thanks for sharing.
Minimalism doesn't always mean abstract, but in this case, the two go hand in hand. As you can imagine, there were thousands of entries containing images like this, but only a few have a little bit of something special, and yours stood out.
There is something delightful about the immersive emptiness of the frame, filled only with water, ripples and the small sphere of the distant sun just as it dips below the horizon.
This image leans into the pastel tones and the variations on pink that fill every pixel.
If I'm not mistaken, this was an image that was shot on a phone which is even more impressive considering you're going up against people shooting with professional kit. This reinforces the notion I repeat often; 'the best camera is the one you have on you'.
It also speaks to your creative eye, because you've captured this scene wonderfully and really fulfilled the brief.
Congrats on making the top ten!
This is a fabulous image of an often photographed lighthouse that makes the most of the conditions and uses all the elements in the frame to powerful effect.
The long exposure smooths out the water and creates a dreamy foreground. The lighthouse is a great focal point, matched by the low sun reflecting in the high tide.
The softness of the conditions and your creative techniques have really elevated this image and for me it fulfils the brief in a gentle and beautiful way.
One of the best images I've seen of this location. Thanks for sharing.
There were plenty of images depicting lone sail boats on the sea, and it was really difficult to pick some to make it into the top ten. However, after much deliberation, I felt that this one had a a little something special and deserved to recognised for that.
Your composition is what makes this image work so well. I love that you've opted for a 8x10 ration and you've only allowed for a thin slither of sea at the bottom of the frame. On it, the boat, tiny in stature against the vastness of the ocean and the sky. Above, cumulous clouds gather, speaking to a change in the weather and loom over the boat. I love the way the light is catching on the clouds.
The elements work incredibly well together and this is one of those images that deserves to be printed, framed and put on your wall!
Congratulations on making the top ten.
I love this. It has a graphical feel to it, and it demonstrates both your talent as a photographer, but also your ability to think outside the box and your interpretation of the brief is truly refreshing.
For me, this image deserved a spot in the top ten. I love the way you've composed with the concrete giving way to the yellow ladder which stands out so perfectly against the blue water of the sea behind. A lesser photographer might not have even seen this composition, let alone execute it so deftly.
The scene is helped by the bright light which brings out those bold colours.
Congratulations on reaching the top ten.
Monochrome photography is particularly challenging because there is nowhere to hide, the composition has to be spot on. This is a wonderful example of fine art, black and white imagery that really fulfils the brief and demonstrates your talent as both at photography and processing.
You also demonstrate that you have faith in your understanding of the technical aspects, committing to such a long exposure. It's really the long exposure that makes this image sing. It smooths out the water, removing any distraction and separating the image into three main elements; the water, the bridge and the sky.
I like the hi-key editing of the sky and the way you've composed with the bridge that seems like it is disappearing into nothing, obscured by the fog at the other end..
A majestic image that fulfils the brief with flare and personality, thank you for sharing!
To be honest, it was a really difficult task to choose a winner in this contest. It could have been any of the top ten, but there was just something about your image that stood out to me.
Firstly it fulfils the brief in the most beautiful way. The lone sail boat is separated from the background by a fine line of mist, one of the only elements in the image. Behind, is the softest sunset (or sunrise) which has covered the clouds in pastel tones, from blues to pinks. The small detail that really made the image for me is the small, almost imperceptible line of flying birds that are perfectly positioned above the boat. They bring a little touch of magic to the scene.
It's not only the content that makes the image a winner, it's how you've arranged them in the frame. I love where you've positioned the boat, in the bottom right of the frame, emphasising the negative space and leaning into the minimal theme. This is helped by your decision to go for a 1:1 ratio.
The processing brings out all the delicate colours and overall, this is just a beautiful image of which you can feel incredibly proud. Congratulations.

Some images are all about the conditions and some images are much more about the content. This image does a good job of marrying up both of these.
Firstly, your good sense to take the conch shell down to the sea and use it as the main element in the frame is inspired. It is a the only thing on the beach, alone in this vastness and speaks to the minimalist aspect of the brief.
The image is helped by the wonderful colour of the water. That fine line of turquoise is magical against the white sands. However, what makes the image for me, is not the water, or the shell alone, it's the way the cloud in the sky mimics the shape of the shell. That repetition really works and it elevates the image from something interesting to something inspiring, aided by your composition and processing.
Congratulations on making the top ten!
This is an absolutely fabulous image that fulfils the brief in spectacular fashion.
You embrace minimalism by breaking down the image into layers and making the most of the elements in the frame.
The panoramic aspect ration is impactful, especially as we have a tendency to read images from left to right. My eye moves along and explores the different layers from the sea and the bottom, to the thin line of sand, back to the sea and eventually the sky. Eventually my eye lands on the heron, right at the edge of the frame, reflecting in the water. The inclusion of this detail makes the image sing, and stand out from the rest.
The bright, bold lighting works well, helping to bring out the variations in blue visible in both the sea and the sky, and what makes the image for me is that fine line of sand.
Incredible, graphical image that would look fantastic printed large and put on a wall.
Congrats on making the top ten!
There were plenty of top-down shots entered into this contest, but few were of this quality.
What makes this image work is its simplicity. From above, we're looking down on the water which is filled with so many different variations of turquoise and blue. There is a glassy feel to the surface of the water, revealing only a hint of what lurks beneath. It speaks to the emptiness of the ocean and fulfils the brief in spectacular manner.
The only thing interrupting this sea of blue is a small sail boat which acts as both a focal point and a metaphor of humans helplessness against the vastness of the ocean, despite our attempts to conquer it and harness it for our own uses. The boat is perfectly positioned in the frame and the lighting is bright, bringing out those colours.
Beautifully done, well done on making the top ten!
Sometimes it is the simple images that can have the most impact and I think that this is a wonderful example of that. The brief speaks to minimalism and you've fulfilled it in a quietly beautiful way.
A lone, small, white feather, weightlessly floats on the surface of the water. It is the story of the sea in a microcosm. The small and delicate seeking to survive against the vastness of the ocean.
Your good eye has picked this feather out and made it the focal point, but the way you've composed the rest of the image makes the frame sing. I love that there is a hint of colour reflecting back in the water from the sky above, adding a small hint of another kind of vastness. The colour seems to fade as my eye arrives at the bottom left of the frame, as do the ripples, making way for the small feather to take centre stage. A little touch of magic.
Thanks for sharing.

There were plenty of long exposures entered into this contest, quite a few that contain this rock formation, and it was tricky to narrow it down to one I prefer over the others. By definition photography is a subjective art form, and each person will be moved by something different, but good composition is universal.
The three elements in this image break down to the sea, the sky and the rocks. What makes it is how you arrange them all in the frame.
The portrait orientation keeps our attention and I'm immediately drawn to the moody sky, filled with threatening clouds. Below - the sea brings some shades of blue and your choice of long exposure adds interest and narrative to the composition.
The main focal point is the rock formation, standing stalwart against the tide, and it's jagged edge pulls in the eye to explore the image further.
Just a classy image that sticks to the brief and demonstrates your talents as a photographer, both in the aspects of composition but also processing.
Congrats on making the top ten!
There were many drone shots entered into this contest, but this was the one that stood out for me. I think you entered a few different ones of surfers, and they were all fantastic images but to me this is the image that most speaks to the minimal brief.
The cool, blue tones of the sea clash with the foam as the sea froths up. The surfer, alone on the sea, stands out with their yellow surfboard.
Many of the images in this contest speak to humanity's relationship with the sea and this is another fine example, especially as it seems the surfer has wiped out, clinging to their board.
Nicely seen, captured and processed.
Congratulations on sneaking into the top ten! Thanks for sharing.

Seascapes are tailor made for a minimalist approach - one that can bring a gentle focus on the infinite variations of tone, texture and shade. Images can be in colour or black and white, and whilst images may include some land, boats, or other evidence of human activity, there should be an emphasis on simplicity.
