This striking composition makes for a fabulous image. I love the sense of solidness of the mountain, emphasised by placing it centrally in the frame and further accentuated by the square crop. The black and white conversion is excellent, with a full range of tones whilst avoiding looking too contrasty. The foreground rocks add interest and direct the eye to the dominating mountain beyond. Congratulations on your winning image.
The church, positioned centrally in the frame at the base of the mountain works well and makes a bold statement. Some may find the bright patch of snow in the foreground a little jarring or disconnected from the rest of the landscape, but I quite like that as it adds a tension to the scene and prevents the harsh landscape becoming too pretty. Congratulations on your second place finish.
By focusing in on just the mountain tops, we get a rather abstract scene that shows the rocky mountains dusted with snow at their best. Full of drama and a sense of foreboding, the image serves to show that whilst truly beautiful, the mountains can be desolate and hostile places, commanding respect. Great image, well done on your top ten placing.
A dramatic yet beautiful capture of these striking mountains. The conversion to black and white has shown the scene to its full potential, highlighting the textures in both the rocks and the sky. The letterbox crop works well as we are given neither too much foreground nor too much sky as we could have been in a standard format. Great image, well done on your top ten placing.

This contest is for your black and white photos of landscapes dominated by mountains. Images can show mountains captured looking up from valleys and lowlands or from up in the mountains themselves. Mountains must be included in the shot, not just the view from a mountain. Please only enter black and white photos. I look forward to seeing your entries.
