At first look, I thought that this was a model or miniature. The coloring and texture feel like a tilt-shift effect. But at a second, or deeper look, it is clearly neither. This photo grabs be because of the background looking like an aurora and the front like a vaudeville stage. I expect a Spanish rendition of hallelujah to fill the room. Great contrast and mood.
As an instrument, it is a gorgeous piece of work. Looks vintage. I noticed this picture when it was in 1st place from the crowd. I wanted to make sure that it got a top ten. The color of this photograph is fantastic. The environment is the perfect backdrop for this dobro guitar. It's like Dire Straits meets O' Brother where art thou.
I just love this photograph. How could you not? It exudes happiness. The guitar, the people. It makes you want to dance. Even though this is a contest for musical instruments. The bride steals the focus. But she is reacting to sound and her groom. The lighting is perfect. Even if the focus is not as sharp as it could be. It still conveys a powerful and unforgettable moment.
The lonely french horn. There is something lonely and yet formal about this picture. It denotes a quiet dignity and elegance that most instruments lack. One assumes that this is a school event. But judging by the uniform it could be a more professional band. Two thumbs up for creating a memorable shot.
I always enjoy close up details of instruments. This one is exceptional. The red is striking and the blurred tilt-shift effect adds to the allure. I am assuming that this is a grand piano. I really like the foreground interest in the scene along with the use of negative space in the background. Nice perspective. Well done.
I believe that I commented on this photo when I first saw it. Loving abuse. There is a tortured relationship between the guitarist and his guitar. Like a relationship with a lover, we often hurt what we love. There is sadness or regret being reflected here. Though, the sound from the guitar would almost be guaranteed to lift the spirits.
I really like the colors in the bricks. It is a great backdrop for this musician. Great use of the rule of thirds. The guitar is beautiful and almost seems out of place. It juxtaposes a refined quality to the unrefined environment and guitarist. I can almost hear him ripping Let it be or something as iconic. Absolutely fabulous photograph. Bravo.
I knew that was a Paul Reed Smith without having to even read the description. They have outstanding craftsmanship and glorious quilted tops on so many of their guitars. This photo captures the depth and talent of Maryland's best luthiers. I love the detail and reflection. I hope you play it as great as you have photographed it.
